The content quandary: When the words won't fit

  1. 1. The content quandary: When the words won’t fit. Web Directions RESPOND 2014
  2. 2. quandary /ˈkwɒnd(ə)ri/ noun A state of perplexity or uncertainty over what to do in a difficult situation
  3. 3. RWD CONTENT UTOPIA Graceful, nimble, uniform
  4. 4. RWD CONTENT REALITY Cumbersome, unwieldy, likes to fight
  5. 5. 1. RESTRUCTURE Content (model) first
  6. 6. “No model survives first contact with real content.” - Cleve Gibbon
  7. 7. 2. REVIEW Focus on what’s on the surface
  8. 8. IN SUMMARY Tips for avoiding the content quandary 1. RESTRUCTURE Build your content model before you start. It’s OK for real content to come a bit later. 2. REVIEW Get professional help for your top 10% of pages. Remove terms that don’t work in a RWD. (up, down, click, below, etc.) 3. RETHINK Don’t ignore internal politics. Content is easy, people are the messy part.
