Definitions and MCQs of Ninth Class Chemistry (chemical bonding)

  1. 1. Chapter 5Chemical Bonding(The future will take revenge if you spoil thepresent)Chemistry MCQs Dr. Sajid Ali Talpur
  2. 2.  Definitions1. Chemical bond: - The attractive force thatholds atoms together in a compound is calledchemical bond.2. Ionic or electrovalent bond: - It is defined asthe electrostatic force of attraction betweenpositive and negative ions.3. Covalent bond: - Achemical bond that involvesthe sharing of electrons is called covalent bond.4. Single covalent bond (—): -such a bond isformed when one electron is contributed fromeach atom making one shared pair. E.g. Cl25. Double covalent bond: -in such a covalentbond each of the two atoms contribute twoelectrons as in O26. Triple covalent bond: -in triple covalent bondeach atom contributes three electrons as in N27. Co-ordinate or dative covalent bond: -acovalent bond in witch one of the bonded atomsfurnishes both of the shared electrons.8. Hydrogen bond: - it is an electrostatic force ofattraction between a partially positive hydrogenatom of one molecule and the electronegativeatom of the other moleculeChemistry MCQs Dr. Sajid Ali Talpur
  3. 3. 9. Metabolic Bond: - It is defined as the force ofattraction between electrons and the positivenuclei of atoms.10. Dispersion Forces: The dispersion forces arethe weak attractive forces between temporarilypolarized atoms (or molecules) caused by thevarying positions of the electrons during theirmotion about the nuclei11. Dipole moment: - the measure of the degree ofthe polarity of a polar compound is called dipolemoment.12. Electronegativity: - It is the power of an atomto attract shared pair of electrons towards itself.13. Bond pairs electrons: - also called active set ofelectrons they take part in bond formation andare incorporated as shared pair.14. Lone pair of electrons: - also called nonbonding pairs, are paired electrons but don’ttake part in bonding.Chemistry MCQs Dr. Sajid Ali Talpur
