Why study this subject?
The Certificate in Financial Studies (CeFS) has been designed to encourage individuals to be
inspired to meet their lifetime aspirations. The qualification will enable students to make informed
and confident decisions regarding their finances. It will help students to become responsible
borrowers, sensible savers and have an appreciation of the need for financial planning throughout
Students have one lesson per week and all groups, are expected to also work independently. The
suggested personal study hours for Y12/Y13 are a minimum of 5 per week.
The Certificate in Financial Studies is equivalent to an AS and worth up to 60 UCAS points.
Students will be able to:

Although there are no specified entry requirements, the level of achievement required to obtain the
award is equivalent to that of an AS Level qualification.
The course is divided into three units:
Unit One: Why Money Matters
Unit Two: Risk and Reward
Unit Three: Making Personal Financial Judgements;
How will I be assessed?
Each unit is assessed by a 1 hour examination.

many universities and employers.
