Your turn
Map out your journey and notice any themes that led you to
where you are now.
Can you pick out your values and strengths from this? Do
they fit with where you are right now?

Information Literacy lies at the core of lifelong learning. It
empowers people in all walks of life to seek, evaluate, use
and create information effectively to achieve their personal,
social, occupational and educational goals. It is a basic human
right in a digital world and promotes social inclusion of all
nations (Alexandria Proclamation, 2005).

My statement of purpose
I support students and staff members to become informed,
critically aware citizens throughout their time at University and
in the wider world. I encourage lifelong learning and
development, as well as the utilisation of technologies, to meet
their personal and professional goals.
I do this by providing access to and engagement with high
quality collections and enhancing teaching and learning
experiences across the University.
To do this I build relationships with staff and students; create,
co-ordinate and promote information and digital literacy
programmes; take a strategic attitude; and teach and present
engaging workshops.

Operational (help you get a job done, e.g. computer staff,
immediate team)
Personal (home life and interests, e.g. plumber, yoga teacher)
Strategic (people who can help you do things in future, people
across different sectors, people you can learn from)
24. Brunel University London
Who are your networks?
Write down as many of your networks in the categories
mentioned.
Are there gaps? What can you do about this?
