Shamu Stocking Activity
1. Shamu Tail Fluke Stocking
Materials:
Black Felt
White Felt
Scissors
Construction
Paper
Stapler
Glue
Glitter
6 ft of Black
Yarn
Hole
puncher
Marker
Template
Procedure:
1. Using template provided, cut out the tail fluke shape out of
construction paper.
2. With a marker, trace the construction paper template onto white
piece of felt.
3. Lay piece of white felt onto black felt. Be sure the black felt
covers the whole template.
4. (Optional) Staple the pieces of felt together, stapling inside of the
template. This makes keeping the pieces together during cutting
much easier.
5. Cut out the template, being sure to keep the black and white
pieces of felt together.
6. Punch holes around the border of the fluke. There should be 7
holes across the bottom and 4 on each side (not counting the whole
in the corner).
2. 7. Tie yarn to the upper left hand corner hole, and then thread yarn
down through the rest of the holes. Once you reach the last hole in
the upper right, leave enough yarn for the hanging loop and tie the
end of the yarn to the original knot.
8. If used, remove the staples carefully.
9. Write your name (or make a design) on the black side of the tail
fluke in glue. (Don’t be afraid to use a lot of glue. Remember the
more glue, the more the glitter can stick to.)
10. Quickly, cover the glue with glitter.
11. After about 10-15 minutes, pour the excess glue off the fluke onto
a piece of paper so you can transfer it back into the bottle of
glitter.
12. After completely dry, brush off any excess glitter from the felt.
