Live® ECONOMIC TALKING POINTS Unemployment Rate Declines and Hits a 50-Year Low • According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment rose by 136,000 in September and the unemployment rate declined 0.2% to 3.5%. The last time the rate was this low was December 1969. • Employment in health care and in professional and business services continued to trend up. Employment in other major industries, including mining, construction, manufacturing, wholesale trade, information, financial activities, and leisure and hospitality, showed little change over the month.
