Introduction •Corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities bring positive reforms in the society and create goodwill amongst society, shareholders, customers and employees •It has become a way to earn respect in business communities •Unlike major corporate not all companies have that bandwidth and funds to research and find out areas where they can contribute towards the society. •These companies look up to NGOs and foundations to help them carry out their CSR contributions.

Recent Reforms in CSR in India •The recent changes in the Companies Act have stated that CSR spend to be mandatory and companies should spend at least 2% of their net profit on CSR activities •Companies will have to conduct CSR activities in the India only and work on upliftment of the society •Implementation guidelines say, a company can also funnel its CSR activities through registered Trusts, societies or foundations

NGOs in India •India has observed a boom in formation of NGOs in India in recent years •CBI in its report presented to the apex court conservatively gauged total of 30,81,873 NGOs in 26 states and 7 Union Territories in India. •Corporate CSR collaboration NGOs can work out focused efforts towards their social objectives

NGOs for CSR Initiatives •As per a study by ASSOCHAM, The Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India, about 67 per cent of domestic corporate have chosen NGOs to partner closely for discharging their CSR initiatives •58 per cent companies preferred government departments •200+ NGOs in the country are specialised in CSR projects •Corporate are now looking for such NGOs and trusts which would help and guide them to undertake CSR activities •Working with NGO’s is preferable for companies because they are well acquainted with their norms and guidelines, making it easier to understand and keeping things transparent •Company should work hand in hand with the NGO for the betterment of the society and not just allocate or donate funds and get away with responsibility
