Danny Zuckerman, co-founder of 3Box, will talk about a bottoms-up approach to self-sovereign identity. In addition to the technical advances and standards that enable self-sovereign identity and data interoperability, what are the value propositions that will lead to early adoption? How can we take on the giants of today’s digital identity and data world while self-sovereign solutions are still sub-scale?
This talk will focus on the intersection of a long-term vision for self-sovereign identity with market realities and demands today. With a focus on satisfying an emerging set of needs for developers and online businesses, 3Box is creating data storage infrastructure and products that make it appealing for developers to build applications with a self-sovereign architecture. The APIs for distributed storage, profiles and messaging are easy to use in any online app, adding key functionality while reducing developer overhead. This distributed model can be a simply better way to build online apps.
Architected around an IPFS-based DID and identity system, 3Box ensures users and developers don’t need to make changes to their identity and authentication model today, easing a transitioning to user-centric and self-sovereign data. It is focused on ensuring interoperable data of all kinds, and working with all types of self-sovereign identity solutions, authentication methods, and decentralized networks.
Before founding 3Box, Danny was director of strategy and operations at uPort, a Ethereum blockchain-based self sovereign identity project. He is also the co-author of Identity Theft, a book about defining and rebuilding identity after trauma and life changes. He previously built digital education products at Zearn and consulted with F500 companies as a consultant at Bain & Co.
