  4. 4. Purpose of Study: • Estimate the achievement of IAMWARM project attributable to SRI which contributed to increased production of rice at the state level over seven years of project duration. • Compare the rice production performance of Tamil Nadu state prior to introduction of SRI (base year 2001-2006) with performance after SRI was spread between years 2007-08 and 2014-15. Method: • Analysing the paddy area, production and productivity under conventional paddy (between the period 2001-2006 considered as baseline) compared with period of SRI spread (2007-2015) when Tamil Nadu rice production was impacted through IAMWARM Project. Result: • The area under SRI in Tamil Nadu shows increasing trend during 2007-2014, almost doubled from 4.21 lakhs tons to 7.99 lakhs. The share of SRI in total rice area during this period increased from 23.5% to 44.7%. • In 2014-15, the percentage increase in rice production the base period was 54.8%. Similarly the increase in rice productivity was 58.3% in that year as compared to the baseline. Conclusion: • The evaluation of SRI impact rice production in Tamil Nadu shows that SRI method can produce significantly higher paddy yield on a state-wide scale even if not farmers adopt it. Almost 30% increase in yield was achieved with less cost for farmers and less consumption of irrigation water.
