  1. 1. JK Agri-Genetics: Broad Objectives for SRI in Orissa <ul><li>Initiate experimentation for improving the rice productivity in Orissa. The Beginning : 2007 <ul><li>JK Seeds in collaboration with the state govt. of Orissa conducted SRI trials at 496 locations in Ganjam district for Kharif 2007 through Agricultural Training and Management Agency (ATMA). </li></ul><ul><li>A total of 496 beneficiaries were selected from all the 22 blocks; each farmer provided with HYV (Pratikshya) for 0.25 acre and a hybrid (JKRH 401) for 0.1 acre </li></ul><ul><li>Out of 496 locations, only 76 farmers could grow their crops with proper care and practices. </li></ul><ul><li>HYVs and hybrids were grown with normal as well as SRI management. </li></ul>

Activity Scaling up in 2008 <ul><li>JK Seeds and ATMA of Ganjam Dist has conducted as many as 600 trials for establishing the SRI technology in the state. </li></ul><ul><li>Simultaneously worked with NGO’s like BASIX in 4 districts of Orissa and in 1 district of AP to spread the technology through their producer groups </li></ul><ul><li>Work also initiated with another NGO “BISWA” to spread the technology with their producer group </li></ul><ul><li>The initial observations received through ATMA are enclosed. </li></ul>

Conclusions <ul><li>In Kharif 2007 : SRI yield increase was up to the tune of 52% in hybrids compared to 21% in HYV’s </li></ul><ul><li>In Kharif 2008 : SRI yield increase was about 39% (lots of results awaited) in hybrids compared to about 20% in HYV’s. </li></ul>Conclusion : “JKRH 401 RESPONDS EXCELLENTLY WELL TO SRI METHOD OF CULTIVATION AND GIVES MORE THAN 50% OF THE YIELD INCREASES OVER TRADITIONAL VARIETIES”. Chief Minister of Orissa praised JK 401 for its yield increase
