  6. 6. EatonSynergies, LLC Workplace Drivers for Sustainable Procurement • In a word….MILLENNIALS! • Largest living demographic in US (ages 18-35) • Projected to be 75 percent of the workforce by 2025 • Expectation that Sustainability will be part of what employers do • “48 percent of directors in cities that have a green purchasing policy reported that employee attitudes “Facilitate” or “Strongly Facilitate” their ability to implement green purchasing. 7. 7. EatonSynergies, LLC Show us the Data • Sustainability has to be MEASURABLE • Millennials are savvy consumers and online researchers; they expect data to support sustainability claims • Transparency of environmental metrics and the ability to measure lifecycle impact are important to stakeholders. • It’s a social media world – employers are under scrutiny from employees, customers and recruits • Data will be expected if businesses publicly commit to environmental or CSR goals or participate in collaborations with other purchasers, NGOs, etc.
  8. 8. EatonSynergies, LLC Freedom to work…wherever • Workers value mobility and the freedom to work remotely. Gallup poll: In 2016, 40% of US workers: • Spent some time working remotely • Flexible work location and telecommuting options played a major role in employees’ choosing a job. • Tools? • Multi-use workstations • Conference call/screen-sharing systems for remote collaboration • More CLOUD COMPUTING for accessing large data anytime, anywhere *Source: “State of the American Workplace,” Gallup, Inc. (2017): 5.
  9. 9. EatonSynergies, LLC Procurement’s Role in Managing Value Chain and Resiliency Impacts • Key to flexible work locations = Cloud • Use of cloud part of larger shift to services (software, IoT) • Need to assess environmental impact in the value chain • Lack of data • Value chain impacts increasingly expected in environmental collaborations or programs, such as Scope 3 GHG Protocol, Science Based Targets Initiative • Assess role of IT and procurement in organizational resiliency
