1. 1. E ntrepreneuring F or C hrist Class Presents: The Destructive Nature of <>< the Ultimate Sin, Fear ! ><> By Skip Elmore
 2. 2. Fear , the Ultimate Sin !

There is an old saying:

“ YOUR PROBLEM IS NOT THE PROBLEM! ”

In 2004 an American Medical Association report announced the #1 killer for that year – What was it???

Heart disease .

That same report predicted the #1 killer in 2020:

DEPRESSION , a result of chronic FEAR !

The opposite of “Love” is:

FEAR!!!

 3. 3. Does Love oppress Fear ?

1 st John 4:18

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear , because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

To the degree we allow fear to conquer “ emotions ”, we inhibit our ability to receive genuine love to the fullest.

Therefore the ability to project love to the fullest is also inhibited to a considerable degree by a habit of fearing .

Proverbs 1:24

What the wicked (unbeliever) dreads will overtake him; what the righteous desires will be granted.

“ Emotions ” are a wonderful servant to us, but they are very destructive when we let them become our master.

 4. 4. Faith is a NOUN ; Love is a VERB

(Neither of these are Emotions!)

We possess fear (a noun ). We emote fear (a verb )!

Both can be lethal W eapons of M ass D estruction!

Can fear also have a positive value? When?

Only when becomes positive motivation.

(A lesson on motivation is coming soon)

Emotions allow us to experience our environment.

Then, involuntarily we express what we experience.

Romans 14:23b

Everything that is not from faith is sin. How can that be???

Hebrews 11:6

Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

 5. 5. Fear: The W eapon that opened the door to Job’s M ass D estruction!

Job was a blameless man, but not faultless!

He was the Bill Gates of his time – had it all.

However, as a result of Satan’s destructive testing, Job lost everything and was found sitting on an ash heap that had most likely been a fine stately mansion.

He sat scrapping boils with a piece of broken pottery, a reminder of a fine art collection he once possessed.

Then Job spoke evidence of the initiation of his WMD; not blaming God or Satan, he said:

“ What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.” Job 3:25

Let’s review Proverbs 23:7a

For as we think within ourselves, so we become.

 6. 6. Fear – The enemy’s favorite W eapon of M ass D estruction!

Facts Job overlooked in his awareness:

God “spoke” creation; Job was made in His image. Gen. 1;26

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image”

He possessed Spiritual authority. Proverbs 18:21a

Death and Life are in the power of the tongue.

He was a target of God’s enemy. 1 Peter 5:8

The devil prowls like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

His life was a manifestation of his thoughts. Proverbs 23:7a

As we think within our self, so we become.

The power of visions - both negative and positive

Where there is no vision, people cast off restraint. Blessed is he who keeps the (spiritual) law. Proverbs 29:18

His need for a defense against our temptation to fear.

 7. 7. Fear – The enemy’s favorite W eapon of M ass D estruction!

Question: Is it a sin to be tempted?

Was Jesus ever tempted???

What did Jesus do when tempted?

1 st Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has seized you that is not common to all of us. God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

 8. 8. Fear – The enemy’s favorite W eapon of M ass D estruction!

One more fact missing from Job’s awareness:

Understanding a spiritual dynamic, real JOY Proverbs 42:10

Proverbs 42:10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before.

“ Joy ” is a foundational purpose we were designed to possess continually as a component of our relationship with God (Ex. 34:14) before man’s fallen nature (Genesis 3:6).

As we serve others we experience, to a limited extent, our foundational relationship purpose and the Joy accompanying it. Job turned his eyes to the needs of others thereby releasing the providence of God for the restoration and joy we were originally designed to host.

 9. 9. Fear – The enemy’s favorite W eapon of M ass D estruction!

***Joy is not happiness! ***Happiness is not joy!

Circumstances will always seriously encumber our ability to maintain continuous happiness.

However, genuine JOY is stable when our faith is not infected by fear, but is fortified by an understanding and ownership of the innocence and authority of grace !

This is when we get a small sampling of what life eternal is - Where joy completes our purpose.

Unconditional joy will only prevail when we experience the witness provided by hosting God’s Holy Spirit in such a dynamic way that it is not encumbered by “ Fear ”.

 10. 10. Defusing Fear’s Mass Destruction!

Remember Job’s lack of awareness?

That he was a target of God’s enemy

That he possessed Spiritual authority

That manifestations of his thoughts would prevail

What are the antidotes to “Fear”?

Subduing the temptation to habitually fear

How?

Through Spiritual authority provided by grace.

Cultivating the habit of faith driven “hope”

How?

Through Spiritual authority provided by grace.

 11. 11. Defusing Fear’s Mass Destruction!

Proverbs 10:11 . The mouth of the righteous is a well of life. But, violence covers the mouth of the wicked. (Wicked = unbeliever)

Proverbs 10:24 . The fear of the wicked will come upon him. And the desire of the righteous will be granted.

Proverbs 23:7 . As we think in our heart, so are we.

James 3:6 The tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell.

 12. 12. Defusing Fear’s Mass Destruction!

Scripture authority about the cause & effect life:

A few of many examples

Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; what we sow, we reap.

Job 3:25 The things I feared came upon me, What I dreaded happened.

Job 4:8 Those who sow inequity & trouble harvest it.

Ps. 126:5 Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting.

Prov. 22:8 He who sows inequity reaps vanity; his rod of fury will perish.

2 Cor. 9:6 S ow sparingly, reap sparingly; bountifully reaps bountifully.

Deut. 22:9 If you sow 2 kinds of seed; the produce will become defiled.

Is. 32:20 Plant in well watered fields and you will be blessed.

Hos.4: 2-3 If you are disobedient, your land will stop producing.

What are you sowing? What are you reaping?

What is the antidote to the sin of fear?

Answer: Speak against “fear” in the “ Name of Jesus ”!!!
