Ţurca (tzurca) is a game traditionally played by two teams in two stages,
without direct contact with the adversary, players have their skill and patience
tested, while the game contributes to the team spirit and competitiveness.
Teams consist of four members plus one reserve. The captain of the team
wears a distinctive headband. The teams can be mixed.
The Playground: a flat surface in the form of a quarter of a circle with a radius
of 50 meters; at a the 90 degrees corner there is a pit of 20/5cm., 10cm deep., the
general appearance of it being a boat bottom, outside the surface, with the tip
on the meeting point of the two sides.
It shows the distance of 5 meters from the pit through a continuous white line in
the shape of o semicircle.
Ţurca is played with a bat and a stick, with the following dimensions:
- The bat is 80cm in length and the stick (Ţurca) 22cm long., the bat's
thickness is 2cm and 3cm from one end to the other,
the tzurca (stick) has a thickness of 2cm at both ends and is of a truncated
form over a length of 4cm, decreasing linearly to 1 cm in diameter
The bat and the stick are made of wood, with the following weight limits:
the bat - between 300 and 330 grams, the stick - between 53 and 56 grams,
differences due to different raw material moisture.
The placing of each team, namely to "throw" or to "catch" is decided by
drawing lots. Each team must first declare the order game entry of its
The first team member to throw starts the game by placing the tzurca across
the pit and throwing it towards the playground, using the bat as leverage.
The catching team, at at least five meters of the pitcher will try to catch the
tzurca, and if this happens, leads to changing the pitcher with the next one on
The pitcher puts the bat across the pit and the team to catch (the nearest player
ot the one who touched the stick), throwing standing, will try to hit the bat with
a stick, thus removing the player and forcing the next player to occupy the
pitching position .
In case the catching team fails, they go to the second stage of the game:
gathering points or ''hits''
Placing the stick accros the pit with one end inside, the pitcher will hit it (with
the bat) at the outside half so that it will make it rise,
during which he will strike again, casting it as a far from pit.
If the team situated at "catching" position catches the stick (tzurca) hit by the
pitcher before the stick touches the ground in the playing field or outside of it,
both teams change their position with each other. If the stick touches the ground
after it touched a player of the team situated at "catch" position, the team will
receive a penalty of 100 points.
If successful, the player will appreciate on the spot, loud within 10 seconds after
the stick falls on the ground, how many club lengths are in a straight line from
where the stick fell (the middle of it) to the center of the "throwing" pit,
without resorting to any other kind of measurement.
If the catching team does not validate the assessment bid it will go to the
measurement of the distance.
a. If the measured distance is equal or bigger than the bid, the team situated at
"throwing" position will receive twice the number of points according to initial
b. If the distance is less, the throwing team will receive a deduction of points -
twice the distance bid.
The measurement will be made by the field referee. He can use a measurement
If the catching team validates the distance, it is converted into points that are
added to the throwing team's scores.
The team that reaches the score of 1111 points first or accumulates
the most points at the end of the game (60 or 120 minutes) is
declared the winner.
