  1. 1. To animate a digital training session Module N°2
  2. 2. Project No: 2017-1-IE01-KA202-025711 This project has been funded with support from the European Commission. This publication reflects the views only of the author, and the Commission cannot be held responsible for any use which may be made of the information contained therein. 2
  3. 3. What’s in this Module Module 2 :To animate a digital training session • Know your role in this new training mode, • Take into account the needs and expectations of e-learners. 3
  4. 4. Aim : exploit the digital, to make a training more efficient, more effective. Objectives: By the end of this session you will be able to: Aim & Objectives • Familiarize yourself with the vocabulary of digital training, • Know your role in this new training mode, • Take into account the needs and expectations of e-learners.
  5. 5. Glossary Gamification It is the transfer of the mechanisms of the game in a learning situation. Its purpose is to increase the acceptability and the use of these applications by relying on the human predisposition to the game. Synchronous training and asynchronous training The so-called synchronous training is an online training in which the learner is in simultaneous contact (in real time) with the other participants of the virtual classroom by means of communication tools such as chat or videoconferencing, for example. Conversely, the asynchronous term describes a self-training situation during which the e-learner has no simultaneous contact (in real time) with the other participants of the virtual classroom. Among the tools of asynchronous communication, we can mention the forum and the blog. Virtual class The virtual classroom makes it possible to gather in synchronous time on the Internet, or another computer network, participants and a trainer who can in particular, discuss, see each other, view documents, videos, perform quizzes, share their screen. Thus, the virtual classroom remotely recreates the conditions of a traditional classroom training. Thanks to its interactive and educational tools, it makes it possible to organize remote training courses as effective as those carried out in the field.
  6. 6. What is a good digital training? Human • Despite the distance, the digital training is human thanks to you.You are available (we invite you to connect regularly on the platform to check that there are no outstanding questions), listening, and benevolent. • If you want to deploy virtual classroom sessions, choose a solution that you feel comfortable on (Skype, Hangout, appear.in…) and relaxed, it's up to you to set the tone: you have a reassuring, dynamic tone and you create a friendly atmosphere.
  7. 7. What is a good digital training? Practical tip: To answer a question asked by an e-learner, not copy-paste but personal phrases and possibly a link to an external resource citing its sources. Name the people by their first name. By personalizing your answers, you will promote the user-friendliness and commitment of e-learners
  8. 8. What is a good digital training? Useful • The digital training is useful because it relies on an effective pedagogy, which goes to the basics. • The acquisition of knowledge and the assimilation of key concepts is facilitated by the use of innovative and fun methods. • The knowledge can be transposed into the operational daily life of the e-learner. • You respect the defined pedagogy, animate the social network e-learner, developing a collective as well as individual approach. • Pedagogical resources allow the learner, on the one hand to contextualize the concepts exposed and on the other hand to illustrate these concepts in an operational way.
  9. 9. What is a good digital training? Practical tip: Throughout the course, propose challenges or other types of activities that can generate interaction with learners: this will strengthen their commitment and involve them throughout the training course.
  10. 10. What is a good digital training? Concrete • Digital training is concrete through the answers you give to individual questions related to the subject. You provide specific answers and have the opportunity to direct learners to additional resources that you deem useful. • Use content that is relevant to the concerns and realities of your learners' trades. • Be in an expert position by proposing an operational look at the subject, and by integrating current trends and trends.
  11. 11. What is a good digital training? Cooperative • Digital training is based on collaborative learning through exchanges between learners and trainers through the forum module and the possible holding of virtual classes. • As a trainer, you stimulate exchanges, contributions, shared practices. You circulate the information, and value the contributions. • You ensure the balance of exchanges by promoting links to create a real professional network. • In short, you promote the sharing of knowledge for the benefit of all.
  12. 12. What is a good digital training? Practical tip: In order to promote exchange between participants, do not answer a question immediately. Ask learners to answer the question. However, if no answer is provided (or an incomplete answer) within 48 hours, take the hand and answer the question.
  13. 13. What is a good digital training? Flexible • To make it easier for learners to take charge of digital training, they want to be flexible: learners follow parts of asynchronous training when they wish during the period defined for a session. • So each learner can move at his own pace. • Whenever possible, make synchronous training times compatible with the learners' work agenda.
  14. 14. What is a good digital training? Practical tip: For the organization of synchronized activities, be sure to offer several slots so that everyone can choose the date that suits him.
  15. 15. Animation of an online community of learners As a trainer, it is you who will make the success of digital training through your commitment, your professionalism, your pedagogy and your style. To animate the online community of learners, you need to stimulate exchanges: • By launching topics of exchange and questioning • By challenging the community. The challenges must be able to be raised in 10 minutes maximum. Among the examples of challenges to launch you can ask e-learners to take a picture of an installation, to associate an image with a concept seen, to testify in writing in a few lines on a given subject, to give 5 words to describe a concept, to share a link ...These challenges are not taken into account in the evaluation of the e-learner, nevertheless they make it possible to reinforce the playful side of the course and consequently to reinforce the commitment of each e-learner and to stimulate the cohesion of 'team. • Responding to individual questions asked by learners (answer only questions related to the topic) • By orienting learners towards complementary resources. (links to websites, articles, broadcasts ...) • By encouraging the sharing of examples through the forum • By circulating questions
  16. 16. Practical tip: Connect regularly, about 30 minutes, (every other day for example) to observe the thread activity and interact with the community of e- learners. Have a moderating role, if the information exchanged is correct, let the e-learners act, intervene only to correct erroneous information or to answer unanswered questions. A question posed by a learner must not remain unanswered for more than 48 hours, otherwise the learners' commitment may be lost.. Animation of an online community of learners
  17. 17. Connect regularly, about 30 minutes, (every other day for example) to observe the thread activity and interact with the community of e- learners. A question posed by a learner must not remain unanswered for more than 48 hours, otherwise the learners' commitment may be lost.. Set up a virtual classroom session
  18. 18. Practical tip: Prepare for the session by including a start-up time (approximately 2 min) and a conclusion time (1 min) Prepare the documents that will be displayed by favoring schemas and simplified texts. Ideally, 15 slides maximum for a virtual class of 1 hour Set up a virtual classroom session
  19. 19. The virtual classroom lasts between 1:00 and 1:30. The object can be: • One or two themes of the course • A focus on a particular point • An exercise in red thread that incorporates the themes of the course • ... No more than 10 to 12 learners per virtual class session You animate it with a virtual class tool (Skype, Hangout, appear.in ...) on which you are comfortable with the tool on the day. Set up a virtual classroom session
  20. 20. Practical tip: 1 - Install BEFORE the beginning of the virtual classroom and test the tool. 2 - Prepare the space around you: • Calm atmosphere and without distraction • Hard copy of the session, on which to rely during the "live“ 3 - Provide a bottle of water, essential to find your voice in case of blockage or coughing Set up a virtual classroom session
  21. 21. Thank You for your attention !
