Classification • Pain Reliever • An NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) • Relieves symptoms of: • Osteoarthritis: Breakdown of cartilage in the joints, causes pain, stiffness and swelling • Rheumatoid arthritis: A chronic disease of swelling of joints • Pain following dental or surgical procedures

  5. 5. How the Drug affects the Body • COX-2 enzymes makes the body produce Prostaglandins which triggers inflammation. • It triggers the inflammation in the arthritic spots. • When taken, Celebrex reduces COX-2 enzymes which reduce the production of Prostaglandins, which reduces inflammation.
