  3. 3. The story so far..<br />About Denplan<br />Our Green Team<br />We needed to change<br />The hard work !<br />How did we make it work<br />Was it a success ?<br />
  4. 4. About Denplan<br />Established since 1986<br />Based in Victoria Road, Winchester<br />Largest private employer in Winchester with 350 staff<br />Provide payment plans for Dental treatment<br />6500 member dentists across the UK, with approx 1.8 million patients<br />

Our Green Team<br />Since 2006, we had a team of ‘Greenies’ from around the business, meeting quarterly<br />Had a 5 year action plan to reduce;<br />Energy/Water use/Paper use<br />Increase recycling rates<br />Focused on ‘quick wins’<br />It was successful, ‘Commended’ in the Hants & IOW Sustainable Business Awards 2008 <br />Was under resourced, no budget and lacked direction<br />

We needed to change<br />Existing Green Team had implemented all the quick wins<br />Our MD was keen for us to take the next step<br />Our Corporate customers were asking Green questions <br />Parent company had just achieved ISO14001<br />Employees telling us to do more through internal surveys<br />Local community telling us to do more<br />An opportunity to improve processes and reduce costs<br />Next stop….ISO14001 accreditation<br />

The hard work !<br />Setting up the system that stands up to the ISO14001 standard<br />Creating an Environmental policy that meets the criteria of the standard and fits our business<br />Identifying our significant Environmental impacts<br />Target /Objectives<br />Measuring /Monitoring<br />Auditing<br />Continuous improvement<br />

How did we make it work ?<br />Top management were enthusiastic and wanted to proceed<br />We were clear with our communication from the start<br />Presented our starting position to the business through team meetings<br />Why we were doing this<br />What were the benefits to the business<br />How can you help, encouraged feedback & ideas ?<br />Poster campaign & intranet site set up with regular updates<br />Appointed Green Champions around the business who promoted the targets and objectives we set within their own areas<br />

Was it a success ?<br />Waste - Over 70% of all waste recycled<br />Recycling stations on all floors, including cardboard/batteries<br />Treehuggers on all desks<br />Energy use - is still up due to increase in IT <br />Installed sensor lighting and energy efficient bulbs<br />Business Travel – implemented Co2 cap of 159mg for all new company vehicles<br />More management information through measuring & monitoring<br />
