SAP Financial Solutions Success Story @ YASH
1. SAP® Financial Solutions Success Story @ YASH
Streamline Financial Processes and Improve Profitability
Boston Medical Center
Data Archiving Reduced Payroll Processing Time from 1-2 Days to a Few Hours
With 4581 employees and more than 840,000 patient visits in 2009, Boston
Medical Center’s total database size in the production environment was fast
growing. The company’s current SAP system was not efficient for reporting,
queries and searches and they sought a comprehensive data archiving process
that would increase performance by reducing the amount of live data. BMC’s
objective was to reduce the overall size of the database by 30% in the areas
of Human Resources (HR), Finance and Accounting. YASH Technologies was
selected as the strategic partner to define and implement a standard archiving
process along with documented procedures for data archiving, recovery,
and destruction. After a detailed system assessment, a phased archiving
strategy was designed, and covered the archiving objects, business data
elements, retention periods and retrieval plans. YASH provided additional
custom enhancements with complete documentation for functional reports
using archived and non-archived payroll and HR data to meet BMC’s unique
business requirements. This resulted in a 98% reduction of database size. BMC’s
successful data archiving initiative reduced backup costs by 40%, and improved
productivity and collaboration with instant data and document access. Most
importantly, BMC realized a reduction in payroll processing time from 1-2 days
to a few hours.
2. Aarti Industries
Chemical Company Achieved Operational Excellence with Robust ERP Solution
Aarti experienced rapid growth via global expansion with annual revenues doubling to reach
$400 million. Aarti was utilizing Tally, a legacy application used by small enterprises in India,
for their financial reporting needs. However, the financial management capabilities of Tally
could not keep pace with the high volume of business and became increasingly difficult
to use. Without a cohesive system in place to provide visibility of operations across the
enterprise, Aarti’s customers began to feel the effects. In order to sustain their growth rate
and scale operations, Aarti sought to implement an ERP system. Core ERP modules of FI,
CO, SD, and MM were implemented by YASH Technologies at Aarti’s headquarters in Mumbai,
and at six manufacturing plants of its subsidiary company, Anushakti Chemicals and Drug.
Dealing with very complex production operations, YASH integrated over 16,000 material,
4000 vendor, 2400 customer, and 500 asset class data to achieve an enterprise-wide ERP
solution. Integrated processes tightened the billing cycle, resulting in a 50% decrease in
month-end closing cycle time. Customer service issues were significantly decreased, and the
new functionality delivered the ability to accurately track and maintain inventory levels.
Sterlite Industries
Four Month Global Implementation Transforms HR into a Strategic Service Center
Sterlite Industries, India’s largest non-ferrous metals and mining company, was operating in
multiple locations with disparate, non-integrated IT systems. Human resources tasks became
time-consuming and labor intensive and Sterlite needed a solution that could be leveraged
as a competitive tool for future growth objectives. YASH implemented four modules of SAP
Human Capital Management: Workforce Process Management, Talent Management, Workforce
Analytics, and Self-Service Applications, in only four months that consolidated company data
in one central location. YASH customized the HR portal solution to seamlessly integrate
recruitment management and workforce analytics throughout the entire enterprise. SAP
Travel Management was implemented to reduce the processing time for submitting travel
requests, approvals, and expense settlements. YASH configured eligibility rules for all
employees in the system based upon their corresponding grade levels and designed custom
company reports that increased transparency of the travel and expense data. To further
optimize user adoption, there was heavy emphasis on company training via system demos,
training of 45 “SAP HCM Champions” to assist other employees, and weekly email tips. The
increased efficiency made HR a strategic business partner by aligning their activities with
organizational objectives, realizing a high return on investment.
Slade Gorton & Co.
Integration with SAP Best Practices Simplified and Accelerated Financial Reporting Processes
Slade Gorton is a leading US wholesaler of seafood products and efficiency is one of its
key working principles. The company’s vision was to organize its business processes as a
shared service, so that all units, including sales, could function as a single entity, despite
numerous locations. It also wanted to introduce best practices company-wide. Slade Gorton
selected SAP ERP ECC 6.0 Financials as the solution to support that vision. YASH rolled out the
solution in six sales offices and two warehouse locations on a single instance. Business users
began to benefit almost immediately from robust functionality and integrated technology.
They were also able to benefit from online ad hoc analysis and reporting functionality and
tools to leverage internal and external information. An integrated data model of financial
and non-financial information was put in place, enabling consistent data across all business
units. Using SAP ERP Financials, they have managed to streamline finance and order-to-cash
operations, reducing costs and cycle times. Slade Gorton can now grow its operations with
confidence and plan more effectively as a result of greater supply chain visibility.
3. Eli and Edythe L. Broad Institute
Leading Medical Research Organization Utilized SAP for Operational Independence and
Efficiency as They Separated from Parent Company
The Broad Institute used the internal SAP system of its parent company, MIT, to run
operations. In 2008, Broad became a separate entity and managed its own IT applications and
infrastructure. One key initiative was the integration of Grants and Funds Management from
the COEUS database to the new ERP system. With successful prior experience at MIT, YASH
leveraged that knowledge to ensure a successful deployment. Coupled with YASH’s proprietary
“S-Imple” delivery methodology, YASH significantly streamlined the implementation and
reduced costs for the client. A customer-centric SAP solution was designed to include Finance
and Controlling, Procurement and Inventory Management, Production Planning, Quality
Management, and HCM. As a value-added service, YASH conducted training workshops with
stakeholders for the top 20 business processes, and provided PowerPoint presentations and
scripts for the remaining. By automating manual processes in Grants Management, Broad
streamlined operational processes and was able to maintain high levels of performance as
a separate entity. Broad enabled new functionalities, based on industry best practices, in
procurement processes that included RFP, scheduling contracts, and inventory management.
Because the new system was highly integrated, it helped to reduce overall IT costs and decrease
the total cost of ownership. It enabled better decision-making by providing enterprise-wide
visibility into processes across organizational boundaries and by delivering instant access to
information in a secure environment.
Shakti Met-Dor Limited
Leading Indian Door Manufacturer Optimized Workflows with SAP ERP Solution
An increasing customer base and product offering developed inefficiencies within Shakti
Met-Dor Limited (SML). Their existing system was not able to properly support employees
or company objectives. The daily business activities were processed manually and stored
in separate Excel files by the sales, production, and procurement departments. With seven
disparate satellite offices throughout the country, SML wanted an automated and integrated
workflow solution to scale with the company as it grew. YASH implemented SAP ERP Financials
to ensure compliance and predictability of business performance, so SML could gain deeper
financial insight across the enterprise and tighten control of finances. It also automated
accounting processes and financial supply chain management. HCM was deployed to optimize
HR processes and maximize the potential of employees, while supporting innovation, growth
and flexibility. SAP ERP Operations enabled SML to manage end-to-end procurement processes
by automating the entire manufacturing cycle, leading to an improvement in lead-time for raw
materials. The successful ERP implementation ensured that employees could readily access
critical data, applications, and tools they need to perform their job functions efficiently. The
unified database reduced the time to convert inquiries to sales orders by 100%, and improved
overall financial management. SML realized improved alignment of strategies and operations,
increased transparency across the enterprise, and greater efficiency in product costing.
