  • Ian wrote his lyrics to change his world, not the world. But that change rippled into a movement that took on a life of its own. Change starts close and often the fiercest resistance is close as well.Prepare to be misunderstood by the people closest to you, the people that will push back the most are the ones that rely or appreciate who you are. Those people will hold you back because you changing changes their world.
  • Small adjustments over time or with large audiences make big differenceFacial beauty nose to mouth, golf, millimetersIf how you are measuring things based on the staus quo as soon as you take one small step you are already radially different.Small differences create momentum, the momentum that builds to make large differences possible.
  • When you start to take action, things don’t happen right away. Most businesses give up on idea way to early because the timing is not right. Great ideas can take a long time to meet a market. Then when the market is ready you are unprepared and someone else takes the lead. If you believe in something, don’t let it go.
  • It blinds you to reality, it prevents you from pushing to find the free space. It makes you miss things that are happening and be unable to connect with the world.Rich kids of instagram… you should feel sorry for them. When you do it on your own… it actually countsGetting a job at the height of the bubble is not the same as at the bottom of the crash…This disconnection between what you do and what you get in exchange for it.
  • You get hired for who you are, but businesses as they grow try to homogenize the workforce so that people can be replaced without affecting the bottom line.Cirque d Soliel storyWhen you lose track of who you are and what you believe in you become replaceable.
  • We use it to look at a broken system and often can’t do anything about we start to feel that way about the things we can change. We use irony to deflect the fact that we are being complacent and should shut up unless we are willing to do something about. Our expense report software sucks and we are a software company…hahahah..
  • Filter out the BS, don’t let it get you down.We are always bombarded with spin and PR even from inside our own teams. Vision presentations, sales presentation blahblahblahLike drugs, it’s a demand side problem.
  • Your business is not what you say it is, it’s what it does, the actions it takes. It’s our job at work to hold the business to this standard. It’s in our capability to change the perception.
  • Over time in a business or group most people acclimatize and give in to the will of the group. They lose their identity and purpose for what they stand for as an individual. You start to coast and once that starts it’s really hard to build up the momentum to start up.Are you sitting down? Are you along for the ride?Sometimes standing up has risks, most of the time it doesn’t. Amazing things happen when you stand up for the small things…one day you will suddenly find yourself standing up to big things too.
  • People make choices everyday based on feeling like they owe something to someone. We feel like the things we have we took from someone, or someone “gave” us even if it was a fair deal… we stay beholden for too long against both your and their best interests. We feel we are lucky… but that feeling doesn’t help us move forward.
  • Think before you act, you don’t need to fight every battle.Don’t take anything personally, even if it’s personal it doesn’t ever help you to think that way.Don’t make your problems seem worse then they actually are, is it a first world problem?
  • You don’t get identity from the things you own at work, or have been assignedWe tend to put blinders on based on what we have been given to do, this business wide.ShoemakerYou could be what you are capable of doing… that’s way bigger. If you see a problem go fix it.

  • Don’t try and be something your not, be genuine. You don’t have to get recognition, praise..you just have let your work and actions speak for you. Don’t talk shit, do shit. When you think you have a good idea do something about it.Keep expectations low so you can exceed them, don’t them up.Gates quote about “Why does Steve keep trying, he can’t win”
  • It’s life and we are human, it’s impossible to live up to all the ideal we have. So this remind me to not take everything so seriously. Also it reminds me to enjoy the journey that following these ideals leads me on and not always worry about the outcome.
