Phase 1 Research – Becoming
Subject Matter Experts
5
• Become subject matter experts
• Variety of research sources - e.g. academic
journals, books, internet sources, videos,
popular movies, interviews
• Each entry will include the title of the resource,
a description of the content and a description
of how this resource could be valuable to your
project
• Each team member will contribute a minimum
of 4 research summaries. Two of them must be
from academic journals
Blog #4
• With this journal entry you are going
to prepare your plan for facilitating
one of your team’s group meetings.
That means, preparing:
• Content
• Create the objective statement
for your meeting – what is it that
you are hoping to accomplish?
• Create the agenda for the
meeting – the specific topics you
will need to address to
accomplish your objective.
Blog #4
• Structure
• Plan a brief icebreaker exercise
you will do with your group
• Identify how you will address the
tools/elements that are part of
structure (consider the logistics,
how will ground rules be
addressed, setting the tone,
action planning, record keeping,
evaluation
• Process
• Which process tools do you think
you will need to use with your
group? How will you prepare to
be ready?
Blog #5
• With this journal entry you are going
to provide yourself with constructive
feedback using the constructive
feed back principles.
1.After your facilitation reflect on your
performance as a facilitator:
What are 2 things you did well?
Describe and explain what the
impact was.
2.What are 2 things you will do
differently next time? Describe the
impact and how you will change for
next time

Blog 4: Sample Structure Tools
Logistics
• zoom room during class
• 60 minute meeting
Ground Rules
• will be established in this meeting
Setting the Tone
• review the objective and agenda; do a round
and ask for additions or changes
• icebreaker activity: messages from the past
Record Keeping

• who will post the notes in the group project
discussion forum
• Evaluation

worked well; one thing that we could
improve/change
17
Blog 4:Sample Process Plan
Gatekeeping
• I’m going to watch to see who participates and
will open and close gates as necessary
• This will be important because we are making
decisions that need everyone’s opinion
• I’ll use some rounds to ensure that I hear from
everyone
Questions
• Open questions will be important to help
generate ideas for the ground rules and the
research plan
• E.g. What are the possible sub-topics of our
workshop topic; What rules/guidelines will help
us do our best work?
18
Blog 4:Sample Process Plan
• Paraphrasing
• I’ll use paraphrasing to ensure that I understand
key points that my teammates share
• Summarizing
• Our meeting has different topics, so I’ll
summarize when we are done with one topic
and before I move to the next
• I will summarize at the end of the meeting all of
the work that be accomplished
