Consultant
Provides professional input as a water management specialist in the AWD impact assessment on the
new project “Adoption and impact of alternate wetting and drying (AWD) water management for
irrigated rice in the Philippines.” Maintained knowledge of policies and procedures and how they affect
water management. Conducted field surveys to collect data and establish a baseline condition for
consideration. Interprets data and develops models to show impacts of water issues.

Led a research program on adaptive research for water management in lowland rice-based cropping
systems, with focus on: development, concise understanding and refinement of generic sound water
management practices and key water management technologies to suit different hydrological

national and local levels. Strong partnerships among stakeholders in the water-agriculture arena in

Led the Hydrology component of the ACIAR funded project “Developing Improved Farming and
Marketing Systems in Rainfed Regions of Southern Lao PDR”. Co-managed the IRRI-Lao Country Office
and research activities. Acted as IRRI-Laos country representative in 2014. Developed novel
approaches, tools and methods for disseminating sound water management practices across public and

Post-doctoral Fellow
Managed the Water-saving workgroup of the Irrigated Rice Research Consortium (Phase 3) funded by a
Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Coordinated farmer and National Agricultural
Research and Extension System (NARES)-participatory research and development of water saving
technologies in the Irrigated Rice Research Consortium (IRRC). Conducted impact assessment and
evaluation along with interviews and monitoring. Executed, analyzed and synthesized results of aerobic
rice experiments in the Philippines. Wrote papers for international journal publications. Led the
outreach, trainings and seminars of water saving technologies in the Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia,
Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, China and other potential IRRC countries. Coordinated the development
and validation of extension and training materials for widespread adoption of water saving technologies
in rice growing countries in Asia. Interacted with national research and extension agencies in
promoting uptake and dissemination of developed technologies and training activities. Member of the
IRRC Management Team.
 Coordinated among the IRRC’s working groups, and among System for Tropical and Temperate
Aerobic Rice (STAR) project partners from China, Philippines, India, Myanmar, Indonesia,
Vietnam, Lao PDR and Bangladesh on technology dissemination regarding water management.

Developed, conceptualized, planned, supervised, analyzed, and reported water management research
projects by: writing proposals and submitting it for approval and incorporation into the overall plans of
the water science unit. Implemented and supervised the same in rice-based production systems.
Analyzed the results and reported conclusions. Lead the implementation of the following projects in the
Philippines: IRRC Water Workgroup’s Technology transfer for water savings (TTWS) and the System of
Tropical Aerobic Rice (STAR).
 Successfully trained NARES and farmers in the Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar and Bangladesh
on “Integrated Field Water Management.”

INTERNATIONAL RICE RESEARCH INSTITUTE (IRRI), PHILIPPINES 2009-2012, 2015 Crop and Environmental Sciences Division Scientist – Water Management Specialist Led a research program on adaptive research for water management in lowland rice-based cropping systems, with focus on: development, concise understanding and refinement of generic sound water management practices and key water management technologies to suit different hydrological conditions. Developed novel approaches, tools and methods for disseminating sound water management practices across public and private research, education, and extension organizations at national and local levels. Coordinated farmer and National Agricultural Research and Extension System (NARES)-participatory research and development of water saving technologies in the Irrigated Rice Research Consortium (IRRC). Conducted impact assessment and evaluation along with interviews and monitoring. Executed, analyzed and synthesized results of aerobic rice experiments in the Philippines. Wrote papers for international journal publications. Led the outreach, trainings and seminars of water saving technologies in the Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, China and other potential IRRC countries. Coordinated the development and validation of extension and training materials for widespread adoption of water saving technologies in rice growing countries in Asia. Interacted with national research and extension agencies in promoting uptake and dissemination of developed technologies and training activities.
