• First of all, I shall discuss about Current status of Myanmar Unicode. Here, Let me tell you one thing. Only few people know that Myanmar Unicode is supported by numerous system. We are already supported by Operating Systems, End User Application, Application Development, Web Development and Database Development. Additionally I want to proudly inform you that there are several web sites providing information on Myanmar Unicode.
• Here we go, Myanmar Unicode is already allocated in UCS (ISO 10646). But Microsoft has not supported fonts, input system and shaping engine for us so far. However Application vendors supports Myanmar Unicode Characters to apply in their applications. Most OS provides input system & render Myanmar code points partially and some of them do more. However, some issues have to be solved in encoding & rendering.
• There you are. Many Operating System support Myanmar Unicode. For instance, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 of Microsoft fully support while Windows 98 and Windows ME partially support but they can’t input Myanmar Unicode Character. Likewise In OSS, Open Source Software enable to use ours.
• Look at on my screen shots, Microsoft Windows XP helps in changing Language into Myanmar. By this way, Now We can change Menu, Title Bar, File Names and Folder Names and so on to our mother tongue.
• From the Linux point of view, as far as we know KDE Desktop is so suited with novice user. Because We can more easily change file name, folder names, etc to Myanmar.
• Among the application system used by end-user, I would like to extract Office Suite of Microsoft, OpenOffice of OSS, E-Mail Client of Microsoft and OSS and Input System which used Unicode-Based Keyboard.
• In Office XP, some kinds of menu can be change to Myanmar Language if you wish.
• In OpenOffice, everyone can use with Myanmar Character once you install MyaZedi font. Then, you may do what ever you want, edit, format, print whatever. You may even save file with Myanmar name.
• E-Mailing becomes more handy in Myanmar Unicode.
• So does in Linux, E-Mail is carried out in Myanmar Language.
• There are two kinds of Myanmar Unicode Keyboard. One by Keyman. Easier to use. Even clicking with Mouse. Another one freely provided by Microsoft. Easier to implement according to your wish. But, for that, you may need at least Windows XP.
• Now, allow me bring you to Development Environment.
• Look our Visual Studio .Net coding. You may name variables, function and others in Myanmar. Amazing!!!
• This is my phonebook program, very easy in Myanmar.
• Everywhere, the word web is heard very often. So, How is Myanmar Unicode implied in web development.
• In Microsoft’s FrontPage, Myanmar Unicode is very convenient to be developed for web pages.
• http://www.etrademyanmar.com, the pioneer myanmar unicode based web site. Myanmar characters are properly displayed in Internet Explorer. Myanmar internet surfing become more lively.
• So is in Mozilla, very popular browser in Linux preinstalled.
• Myanmar Unicode can be setup as sub folder name in URL.
• Myanmar Unicode can be browse as sub folder name in URL.
• We should not ignore the importance of Database Development.
• In desktop level database, along as we know, Myanmar Unicode is implemented in very known MS Access. Database capability has been enabled.
• In MS SQL 2000, as shown in our screen shot, database, tables and other might be named in Myanmar Language.
• So, Search Engine can be run with Myanmar Language but there are some issues to be solved, including typing sequence, word breaking and actual encoding.
