Task 6 powerpoint

 1. 1. Task 6- Musical Genres By Rosanna Todd
 2. 2. Task 6

Choose a musical genre/genres to feature in your magazine. List the names of bands/artists that are part of this genre, a brief history of the genre and the type of imagery associated with it.

 3. 3. My research into the indie/rock genre

Indie rock is a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United Kingdom and the United States in the 1980s.

Indie rock is extremely diverse, with sub-genres that include lo-fi, post-rock, math rock, indie pop, dream pop, noise rock, space rock, sadcore, riot and emo, among others.

Originally used to describe record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock.

As grunge and punk revival bands in the US, and then Britpop bands in the UK, broke into the mainstream in the 1990s, it came to be used to identify those acts that retained an outsider and underground and less testosterone driven perspective.

In the 2000s, as a result of changes in the music industry and the growing importance of the Internet, a number of indie rock acts began to enjoy commercial success, leading to questions about its meaningfulness as a term.

Reference : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indie_rock

 4. 4. This genre will feature in my music magazine that I will create. Names of bands/artists that are part of this genre include: Kings of Leon Oasis The Verve Green Day Foo Fighters Radiohead Vampire Weekend Blur Nirvana Kasabian The Killers Arctic Monkeys Muse My Chemical Romance The Kooks Florence and the Machine Paramore The Enemy
 5. 5. Green Day The Killers Kings of Leon Florence and the Machine
 6. 6. Continued from last page

The artists who are in the images for this genre mainly wear casual clothes. The clothes may include grungy T-shirts which are black in colour (if they are in a band). Medium close-ups are used so that the reader can see the clothing that the person is wearing and this adds to the overall mise-en-scene. In the images they have dull expressions and are not particularly smiling at the camera. This could suggest that they take themselves seriously as a band or artist and are trying to relate to the target audience or the fans that like them.

 7. 7. Images used on front covers for this music genre: The images used on the front covers are of artists/bands that relate to the genre of music the magazine is representing. Men and women are used on the magazines to show that the magazine is aimed at both genders. The people in the images are also shown to be quite rebellious or that there is something different about them. This would attract the target audience as they too may be able to relate to this or inspire to be like them.
 8. 8. Competitions Articles on artist’s success stories Tracks to interest the reader and music information Music reviews- what to buy, behind the scenes, books, DVDs, New albums Posters Interviews with different artists and bands What’s on the contents page of a music magazine?...
