regards to online chat and meetings. As a lot of NEVB customers
were using Microsoft Teams the first reaction within NEVB was to
look at Teams.

Addition of MS Teams?
Adding collaboration
During the pandemic there was an additional requirement with
regards to online chat and meetings. As a lot of NEVB customers
were using Microsoft Teams the first reaction within NEVB was to
look at Teams.
However…
• … the default settings worked for just meetings
• … as NEVB is not actively using Office 365 themselves it required
addition skills to correctly setup Azure AD and Teams
• … it’s difficult to position a Team in combination with Plein
As a result it was not a success.

HCL Sametime Premium
As an alternative for Microsoft Teams we have added HCL
Sametime Premium to the NEVB Plein platform.
Although the integration with HCL Connections is limited it has
several advantages:
• Integration with HCL Notes
• Awareness and chat within NEVB Plein
• “Integration” with meetings based on bookmarks and QR

Enhanced Security
Multi-factor authentication
Now that NEVB Plein becomes more and more the
portal for both internal and external users security
is starting to get a pain point. Multi-factor
authentication should be added for NEVB Plein
and the CSP web portal.
But how … both HCL Connections and
CSP do not natively support it!

Multi-factor authentication
The solution was nearby:
• NEVB already used Sophos UTM for network
security and VPN
• VPN connections were already secured with
MFA by Sophos
The Web Application Firewall (WAF) function of
the UTM might be the solution

The Web Application Firewall acts as an
authenticating reversed proxy.
The following occurs when a user opens Plein:
• A login page from Sophos is displayed
• Users are authenticated on the UTM (for MFA)
• When authenticated the username/password is
used on the backend server for final login
• Exceptions are made for Invite

For NEVB Plein the addition of MFA requires an
additional step after completing the user
registration in Invite. Users now need to register
their device first on the Sophos User Portal.

The CSP Webportal challenge
Adding Multi Factor Authentication to the CSP Web Portal has
other challenges.
• Although the main application is running on Domino, the web
frontend has been build in Umbraco that uses it’s own
username/password validation with Domino
• This means Sophos UTM cannot validate the user and LTPA
cannot be used

Combining Plein and CSP
The solution for requires some creativity:
• Pushing NEVB Plein as homepage will return an LtpaToken
• Using this token Domino retrieves the profile of the user
• This profile contains the name of the user
• The combination of this name and a validated LtpaToken is
sufficient to retrieve the CSP profile in Domino
