  • As parents, you need to take the bullying seriously. Empathize with your child, letting them know that bullying is not their fault, while also giving them confidence that they can solve the problem. Let your child know that bullying is something that can be stopped. I was scanning through a few blogs and found this article on a Safety Service for my children. I found this great application which featured a safety app which gets me connected to a Safety Network or escalate my call to the nearest 911 when needed, it has other cool features that are helpful for your kids with just a press of a Panic Button.   • Welcome everyone. This is an interactive ICN between all of us and the Stop Bulling Now Website and all the resources there. Today at this site we have Kathy Lockard, Olweus Trainer in AEA 14, Myself and I am Penny Bisignano, Olweus Coordinator for the state of Iowa. Are there other Olweus trainers out there if so would you please say hello and introduce yourself. Olweus trainers are in every AEA and some of our school districts in the state. The purpose of the ICN Today is entirely centered on taking you to and through the Stop Bullying Now Website Get the website up please. Ok please just stay at the first page while I show you just a few slides we made to give you a quick idea of what this site is about and what is on the site….then we will walk through each of the resources today so you will be able to go back and quickly find what you need.
  • This is a campaign to : see the bullets When you see the site today be thinking about who needs to know about this site and use it! You will find information on the site that tells you more about all the organizations and partners that came together to make this site one of quality.
  • The best thing about resources at this site is that they are all free and you can download everything. The site is divided into youth and adult sections It is updated frequently and in the next few months, the site is undergoing some major changes that will more accommodate today’s web savvy youth. The will improve the navigation system and add more resources. So it will be good for you to see all the resources and then you can check out the new ones that will be added shortly. Don’t forget that there is great content available in spanish. Remember as the website changes on a regular basis, go to the site map and you will be able to keep up with changes.
  • Please click on the site map in the upper right hand section of the opening page. We are going to walk through each of the links you see in the site map. I would recommend that when you can simply print the site map. It will print to a single page and you can easily see all the links on the website. The major categories are: For students- what bullying is and what they can do, cool stuff For Adults- What adults can do As you can see by the sub categories on the site map, each of these two areas are loaded with resources and content. We will take a look at each one. If you find some areas in particular of interest, you might make a note of the heading so you can easily find it again. E.g. maybe you will find some information that you will use in parent workshops around bullying at the “what family members can do” section.
  • Again we are still on the site map and as we go to the various sections for students we will find-----emphasize bulleted areas.
  • You will see on the site map all the resource areas for adults…emphasize bullets Each one of these areas is loaded with information. Think about teams or committees in your school and who might use this information. Maybe you will decide to take some of your staff through the website as well. Think of this in relation to professional development. Make your own workshop.

  • Again if you click on the Contact link at the bottom of the site map you will find this email address to contact stop bullying now. So let’s walk through the different sections of the website. To do this I am going to go from the site map. I will go from the top of the page to the bottom beginning with the student sections and then the adult sections. Please stop us anytime if you have used this resource and you have ideas or suggestions for the participants. Do not hesitate.
  • Take notes as we go. Simply record the title at the top of each page that you want to go back to. Those titles will be found on the site map. When we are done and you go back to your school, you can always find what you wanted by using the site map. Recording the particular topic on the page will help you locate your information quickly. You will simply have to become familiar with this website and go back frequenty. There is just so much there.
