  • It’s really a tremendous project which will last for many years. So, it is necessary to formulate the annual introducing plan and detailed rules of working targets at each stage.
  • In the progress of evolution, there are numbers of principles we have to comply with. First, protecting investment and minimizing cost without compromising users experiences and network quality. Second, fundamental network comes first in order to carry the service network and CP/SP Third, before spread it in the whole network, ……
  • Next, we list some detailed guidelines for network, service, IT support system and terminals. First, look at the network part.
  • Then let’s consider the service part.

  • Before
  • Before China Telecom announced officially to introduce IPV6 in commercial network, we have already tried a lot in this field. First of all, we participated in CNGI construction which includes …….. We also finished general service platform on it and developed many applications based on this platform, including uni-communication, multi-media conference, country informatization, vedio surveillance system, IPSEC VPN and so on .
  • China Telecom positioned CNGI as a test network, so applying the achievement to the commercial network is very important. We have just finished trial in Hunan metro network. Various types of accessing method are validated and the service provisioning system has been reconstructed to support IPV6. In addition, we are designing and building up the IPV6 network for the World university Game held in Shenzhen in 2011.
  • China Telecom not only do a lot on test network and commercial trial, but also develop products. The industry chain at least includes content provider, network provider and end-users. The industry chain expanded slowly in recently years and I think the dead lock among the three part can explain it. They are keeping waiting for the other parts to go first. China Telecom has the willingness and determination to deploy IPV6 and we started to develop products to help the other two part, content provider and end-users to deploy IPV6 easily and quickly. First, let’s look at the picture and think about the customer’s problem. Before the public subscribers to explore internet, they have to dial up. However, it’s not a easy work since there are too many options they have to choose according the complicated network especially after the IPV6 deployment because the subscribers’ operation system, the network and website may not support IPV6 at the same time. The subscribers do need a assistant to help them solve this problem.
  • China Telecom provide a products named intelligent communication assistant, It can intelligently probe user’s network environment and what website they want to access then help the users dial-up automatically and get whatever information they want in the internet, no matter it is IPV4 or IPV6.
  • Of course, some customer don’t like to install the dial-up client or they are not convenient to install it on the cell phone or other mobile equipment. In this situation, how can an IPV6 users browse an IPV4 website if they don’t use tunnels and other tools? It doesn’t matter, China Telecom can provide anther software named “Content translation gateway”. It can provide the user a guide portal to induce subscribers to use the gateway to get a IPV6 website translated from the IPV4 website.
  • Well, there is an another resolvent. Instead accessing the IPV4 website, the IPV6 customer access the IPV6 website perfectly translated from the IPV4 website. We are now designing a products to help the content provider transfer their IPV4 information into IPV6 information easily and quickly. It is also a resolvent.
  • Well, at last, let’s look back what we have talk about today. We first referred to IPV6 deployment policies. We talk about how many parts need to introduce IPV6 and the CT’s goal for the next 2 years. Then we listed detailed principles for network, service, support system and terminals)
  • Then we recommend what we have done in IPV6 deployment, including CNGI, commercial trial, product development according to the industry chain.

The details of deployment policy--network MAN Support System Backbone <ul><li>Backbones use dual-stack for transiting, both core and aggregation network; </li></ul><ul><li>MAN use dual stack for transition. Most of the subscribers will use dual stack connection and a small number of subscribers will use tunnel in case they don’t have IPV6 ability. </li></ul><ul><li>For small number of applications, protocol translation mechanisms will be put into use. </li></ul><ul><li>Old DNS software system’s need to upgrade to support IPV6 record. The new built DNS are required to support IPV6 access. </li></ul><ul><li>The new built dual-stack Network management system should support IPV6 MIB database. </li></ul><ul><li>AAA system doesn’t need be changed, only need supporting IPV6 subscriber certification by software upgrading. </li></ul>

The details of deployment policy--service <ul><li>New services should be IPV6 enabled as early as possible, while existing service should be support IPV6 gradually by upgrading. </li></ul><ul><li>For those platforms which are directly exchanging information with the client terminals should be IPV6 ready as quickly as possible.
