To qualify, respondents must have deployed IPTV services, and have detailed knowledge of their companies’ IPTV and video infrastructure and services. Respondents must have at least some influence in the purchase decision. The majority of respondents (67%) are the primary decision-maker or have a lot of influence. This is a key part of the screening process to ensure that we’re talking to knowledgeable decision-makers in the buying process.   3. 3. IPTV AND VIDEO CRS IPTV MIDDLEWARE VENDOR RATINGS: GLOBAL SERVICE PROVIDER SURVEY Our respondents are geographically diverse, with a bias toward North America. Although IPTV subscriber numbers remain highest in EMEA, followed by APAC and North America, there are dozens of tier 2 and 3 operators in the US and Canada that have deployed IPTV as a way to counter the growing threat of national cable and DBS operators. These IOCs and smaller operators were early pioneers in IPTV, and many have been able to expand their ARPU and reduce churn through their triple play offerings. They are valid judges of manufacturer performance. In this survey, three of our five North American respondents are either tier 2 or tier 3 operators. IPTV AND VIDEO CRS IPTV MIDDLEWARE VENDOR RATINGS: GLOBAL SERVICE PROVIDER SURVEY Respondents are a mix of incumbent carriers and competitive operators, with cumulative 2008 IPTV subscribers numbering just over 1.8M, which represents approximately 13% of the 2008 worldwide total of pure IPTV subscribers. Though these operators’ current subscriber totals make up a relatively small percentage of the total, 75% of respondents are incumbents who have seen significant subscriber growth in the short time they have been offering IPTV services.
