Castify's IPTV Solution Selected By a Tier 1 European PTT

  1. 1. Castify’s IPTV Solution Selected By a Tier 1 European PTT Scenario The customer is a top European broadband (DSL) operator who today serves a multi-million population of broadband DSL subscribers. Within the next two years, this operator plans to grow its broadband DSL subscriber base to serve more than ten million users. The customer issued an RFP to twenty potential solution providers requesting proposals for an IPTV infrastructure to deliver easily scalable video and rich media services to its rapidly growing customer base. After the initial selection process, ten of the original twenty solution providers were asked to continue participation in the RFP process and provide a detailed description of their solutions. Subsequently, the customer selected three solution providers for its semi- final short list and requested additional details on pricing, conditions, and the services associated with their proposed solutions. At the end of this phase, two solutions were selected. From these two remaining finalists, Castify was selected as the preferred supplier of the IPTV infrastructure and supporting solutions to the customer. Castify participated in this project jointly with HP as Castify’s worldwide partner for IPTV solutions to telecom operators and service providers. Solution The operator’s greatest challenge was to find an open platform that was able to link the heterogeneous group of video servers and application servers running within their existing network. An additional challenge was to ensure highest-possible quality viewing experience for its services by pushing video content to the edge of the network, close to the end users. This meant that it became critical to the success of the operator’s IPTV services that there would exist an easy, reliable means to manage from a central location: • The remote storage devices • The remote, heterogeneous video and application servers • Bandwidth capacity on all remote devices • Media accounts Castify’s IPTV solution, based on Castify’s CBN™ technology, provides a truly open platform that supports all required video servers (Microsoft, Real, © 2005 CASTIFY Networks. As well, Castify’s IPTV solution supports all application servers running on the customer’s network, including FTP servers, caching servers, and gaming servers, while establishing a transparent abstraction layer and thus unifying the interaction and interface between servers and services. Benefits of Castify’s IPTV Solution Of particular benefit to the DSL broadband operator, Castify’s IPTV solution supports multiple services such as: • Highest-Quality Video on Demand Services: Castify’s technology transparently selects the video server that contains or has access to the requested video assets using its patented high performance resource allocation engine, DirectBeam™. • Live Events and Services: With Castify’s solution, multiple media providers and content aggregators can use the same shared networking infrastructure to serve a large audience and insert their live signals from anywhere in the network, concurrently. • Push VoD Services: With Castify’s solution, the major broadband DSL operator can periodically “push” in advance newly released or popular movies to subscribers’ set top boxes and store the movies locally for a pre-defined time interval, permitting the highest-quality user viewing experience with strain on network resources. Castify’s C-Terminal software component runs at the Push VoD receiver and ensures reliable, secure, and targeted Push VoD services to consumers’ homes. In addition, Castify’s IPTV solution is based on its modular CBN product, which offers a tremendous advantage to broadband operators and their video and rich media services: • An open platform that can easily integrate with third party products, including data bases, billing systems, OSS, BSS, and network management systems. • Multiple video servers and multiple application servers support • A management platform for media business: Castify’s solution provides all the building blocks required to support Video on Demand and Live event applications and business models. Castify CBN provides tools to both the network provider and to its media provider customers (or partners) to view real-time and historical audience and content popularity statistics.
