1. Welcome to Sea Tech Week, the largest European gathering in the field of marine science!
In addition to a professional trade fair, Sea Tech Week brings together a range of conferences and
workshops. More than 1 000 participants – 40% of them from abroad – will take advantage of this hotbed
of ideas and innovation for multi- and inter-disciplinary networking.
In 2014, Sea Tech Week will focus in particular on deep sea challenges, through the main conference:
Deep Blue Days.
Introduction to Deep Blue Days
The deep ocean is one of the new frontiers, with contrasted specificities depending on the interactions between living
species and minerals, and making it a confirmed or potential reservoir of energy, mineral and biological resources.
The fast growing world population and several large emerging countries are demanding resources at an ever-increasing
rate, and land-based resources become scarce. In this context, resources of the ocean are attracting an increasing
interest from the international community. However, due to extreme environmental conditions, the responsible use of
these (mostly) non-renewable resources is a complex issue, with many challenges to overcome.
Our future is, at least partly, blue but it needs to be prepared.
We are calling for posters, in the form of abstracts,
focusing on deep ocean issues, due September 5th
2014.
Topics:
Geological processes;
Deep ocean biodiversity;
Technologies associated to exploration and development of energy and mineral resources;
Use of molecules from the deep sea for biotechnological applications;
Regulations and economic issues related to deep sea resource development.
