createathon 2009
If you don’t believe in miracles, you’ve never been a part of CreateAthon. For a mentally
taxing and physically uncivilized 24-hours-with-no-sleep period, RIGGers (and our
amazing guest creatives) work non-stop to develop advertising, marketing and PR
services for worthy nonprofits in South Carolina. It’s exhausting, affirming, humbling.
And after 12 years, we are still surprised at the resulting body of work. Enjoy.

This tub worked overtime. It washed five dirty kids who grew up
to be relatively clean adults who one day left it dry and all
alone. But it’s okay, we plan to place it with a new family some-day.
You could call us a home salvage company — but we like to
think of ourselves as matchmakers.

doing
Tigers Go is a 501(c)3 nonprofi t organization based
in Clemson, South Carolina. We exist to help others
in need by following the Way of Jesus, and we try to
accomplish this through several channels:
Relief Trips
to serve people whose homes have been damaged
by natural disasters
Local Missions
to provide home repairs for people living in poverty
in our own area
Camp Collide
to give youth and adults the opportunity to repair
homes in various states of distress during a weeklong
summer camp
We coordinate service outings and camps in
communities throughout Upstate South Carolina
and in St. Bernard Parish and the Lower 9th Ward
of New Orleans. There are hundreds of places and
people in the world who are need, but these are the
places God has called us to right now.
Relief trips are opportunities to go somewhere outside of your normal
surroundings and demonstrate the love of Christ through doing. Sometimes
that doing can be digging mud out of someone’s home after water sat in
it for three months. Sometimes it’s replacing a crumbling ceiling with new
sheetrock. Or maybe it’s just sitting down on a curb and sharing stories
with someone who has gone through some tough times. To date, we have
led nine trips to New Orleans from Clemson with over 450 students and
community volunteers. They’re usually planned around semester breaks,
and are open to anyone and everyone.
After several trips to New Orleans, we realized there are thousands
of families within a half-hour drive or so of Clemson that need just as
much help as families in New Orleans. So we created our Local Missions
program, which gives us the ability to engage Clemson students in
daylong projects. These projects are scheduled on several Saturdays
during the school semester, and anyone in the community is welcome
to join us.
Camp Collide is a weeklong missions camp designed to engage youth
12 and over in service to others. Youth groups and adults spend an
entire week serving people either in New Orleans, LA, or Upstate South
Carolina. Our counselors, comprised of students who have been involved
with Tigers Go, lead times of worship, sharing and games, in addition to
leading work teams on work sites throughout the week. Camp Collide has
already involved 800 campers and staff in the last three years.
i am ready
We believe the spirit of service is all around us. Whether you’re interested
in going on a mission trip, helping recruit youth groups to participate in
Camp Collide, or helping us secure resources, everyone has a gift to give
Tigers Go.
Join us for local missions workdays :: We always need extra hands and
willing hearts on work Saturdays. Look at upcoming events calendar and
make plans to join us.
Help lead a relief trip :: For every relief trip we take, we need help getting
the word out, preparing for the trip, and help in leading work teams while
on the trip.
Lead a local missions work team :: Do you have experience building
things? Like to paint? Enjoy serving? You can be a work team leader for
local missions.
Help with offi ce stuff :: Without the offi ce running, much of our ministry
couldn’t operate. If you occasionally have a few spare hours to help in
the offi ce, let us know so we can keep you informed of ways to serve in
the offi ce.
Donate materials :: As we continue to meet an expanding need, we are
in constant need of more supplies. We can always use items such as:
Your support can help repair a leaky roof, build a wheel
chair ramp for someone who cannot leave the house, give
a fresh coat of paint to the home of an elderly lady, and
help rebuild homes in New Orleans. Every penny counts.
Even if you’re not in a position to go on work trips with us,
you can uphold us by keeping us in your prayers. Pray for
the people we serve, all of us, and you — that we may all
be led to a life of service.
Join the movement today. It’s the best way to stay
informed and step into work that can have a tremendous
impact on your life, and the life of others. We need your
presence, your readiness, and your spirit to take God’s love
where it’s needed most.

14. As communities spread into rambling hardwood forests
and scenic vistas, we’re losing connections to Spartanburg
County’s quiet untamed beauty.
At The Spartanburg Area Conservancy (SPACE), we’re
balancing progress and preservation to ensure a lasting
gift for generations to come.
Our Evergreen campaign is expanding and accelerating
SPACE’s land-saving efforts which include: placing
conservation easements, providing green spaces and
maintaining stewardship over lands already entrusted
in our care.
Every acre, river corridor, historic site and watershed is
an investment in a brighter, more beautiful future for all
of us in Spartanburg County.

19. In 1997, Cathy Monetti and Teresa Coles had an idea: to combine their
love of advertising with their passion for service. This idea gave life to
CreateAthon, a 24-hour creative blitz that, five years later, expanded to a
nationwide event. In its twelfth year, CreateAthon is still flourishing; still
helping nonprofits in need; and still driving us to power through
that long, long night in September.

Year twelve of CreateAthon was also the year we restructured our agency into the
streamlined, small-but-mighty Riggs Partners. It takes a large number of people to
accomplish CreateAthon, and Riggs had decreased in size, so we offered invitations
to our creative industry friends and colleagues throughout the state. The return
was incredible.
We are so grateful to the amazing volunteers for taking time off of work, traveling
long miles, staying up all night, working relentlessly–and all the while, staying
upbeat and enthusiastic. Thank you all for helping make CreateAthon such a huge
success. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Thanks from all of us at Riggs Partners!
