  3. 3. You are competing for a sizeable cash prize. You need to sell your approach to the best of your ability. You need to include a minimum 4 key assumptions. You need to consider what your strengths are and why your approach is the best. You need to think through your weaknesses and minimise their impact on your approach when challenged. Structure your presentation using PEEL.
  4. 4.  In your groups you will have 15 minutes to plan your presentations to persuade the panel not to send you home.  The winning group will be the one who can convince the panel that their approach has made the most contribution to the study of psychology.
  5. 5. Every good presentation (and essay) has 4 major aspects: Point Evidence/Example Explanation Link back to the question being asked (BONUS) Evaluation of point (how valid the point is, which would include possible criticisms).
  6. 6. You have 15 minutes to plan your argument with your group. You have 3 minutes to present your case. The panel will then question you on the weakness(es) of your approach and you should be able to defend it.

  13. 13. POINT (rudimentary) Make your point. Biological approach is concerned how our physical structures ie. our genes and CNS influence how we think and behave. EVIDENCE (Basic) Support it with psychologic al research. Gotesman and Bertelson (1989) conducted a study to test diathesis – stress theory of schizophrenia by looking at children of twin who were discordant for schizophrenia i.e. one twin had it and one didn’t. EXPLAIN (Reasonable) Explain what the research shows or suggests. For children of discordant monozygotic twins, the percentage diagnosed a SZ was almost identical at 17%. For children of dizygotic twins, 17% were schizophrenic where the parent twin was schizophrenic. However, where the parent twin was not schizophrenic,this dropped to 2%. LINK (Sound) Link it back to your point or criticise the original point. This provides good evidence that schizophrenia is heritable. However, this doesn’t mean that someone will go on to become a schizophrenic.

  15. 15. Choose one 10 mark question from your booklet and plan it. In a moment you are going to plan an answer to a 10 MARK question for one of the approaches you find most difficult. But first… let’s see what content you need to include to aim for the maximum 10 marks…
