  1. 1. AS Section C Approaches question (G542) Name: Grade: Question Marking Criteria a) Give one assumption of the.............. approach 1 Assumption of the approach given but not described fully 2 Assumption of the approach given and relevant BEHAVIOUR is mentioned e.g. The developmental approach assumes that our behaviour changes as we grow (1) and that this is influenced by both our environment and our natural development. b) With ref to .........; how could the ......... approach explain ............ 1-2 Description is correct but ONLY refers to Approach OR study 3-4 Description is correct showing understanding and elaboration Answer refers to approach AND study and these are linked. e.g. An assumption of the dev approach is that behaviour develops due to stages of development AND the child’s environment. As a child grows they may see adults behaving aggressively around them and start to develop aggressive behaviour this way themselves. Bandura found that children exposed to aggressive model were more likely to be aggressive themselves at a later time. The develop. approach therefore suggests aggressive behave could be learnt by observing others c) Describe ONE similarity and ONE difference between any studies that take the .............approach 1 Similarity is identified 2 S is identified with evidence from 1 study 3 S is identified with evidence from 2 studies e.g One similarity between B and S&B is that they both have a large samples. Bandura’s sample was 72 children age 3-5 yrs and S&B sample was 252 children aged from 5-7 years 1 Difference is identified 2 D is identified with evidence from 1 study 3 D is identified with evidence from 2 studies e.g. One difference between S&B and Freud’s study is they used different methodology. Freud used the case study method to look at the development of a phobia in one boy whereas S&B used an experiment to investigate whether the way a question was asked changed the child’s response. d) Discuss strengths and weaknesses of the .......... approach using examples.... 1-3 May be s/w But not clearly linked to approach Limited discussion No use of examples 4-6 1 s/w OR Just s or w Some discussion showing understanding Some examples for some points 7-9 2s 1 w OR 1 s 2 w Good discussion showing understanding Use of examples for every s/w 10-12 Balanced range 2 s/ 2w Detailed discussion showing understanding Appropriate use of examples REMEMBER TO P.E.E 4 TIMES Point; Elaborate; Example STRENGTH / WEAKNESS MUST CLEARLY LINK TO APPROACH (and not “research”) e.g One strength of the developmental approach is that it studies the development of behaviour over time (P). This means psychologists gain a good understanding of how behaviour changes and what may cause this change (E). For example Freud’s case study shows how Little Hans’ phobia may have developed and also how it could be resolved. REPEAT FOR ANOTHER STRENGTH AND 2 WEAKNESSES  OVERALL COMMENT Next time I will...... Please record this on CP / JB sheet as well 
