1. 1. PSYA3
2. 2. Summarise the difference between the two theories of formation we have studied. Your summary should be no more than 50 words!
3. 3. Thinking Ladder… To & how the marks are awarded in a 24 mark question. To & how to structure a 24 mark essay answer. To knowledge and understanding of formation theories to an exam question.
4. 4. How will I know if I am learning? By the end of the lesson… E Will be able to identify how the marks are awarded for A01, A02, A03 in a 24 mark question. C Will be able to explain how to structure a 24 mark essay. A Will be able apply knowledge of formation theories to answer an exam question.
5. 5. Look at the mark scheme for a 24 marker and answer the questions.. What are the maximum marks that can be awarded for A01, A02 and A03? Pick out the key words from the mark scheme. Which words occur in each mark band? Describe the difference between the top mark band and the lowest mark band. Summarise what the examiners are looking for in a top mark answer (Consider A01/A02/A03)
6. 6. Look at the mark scheme for a 24 marker and answer the questions.. A02 & A03 are grouped together on the mark scheme to form a total of 16 marks. 12 of these will be awarded for A02, 4 will be awarded for A03. Maximum 8 Marks Maximum 12 Marks Maximum 4 Marks
7. 7. Look at the mark scheme for a 24 marker and answer the questions.. Key Term What it means in the context of the mark scheme Knowledge and Understanding Showing that you understand the material Evaluation and Commentary Critical commentary of the material including use of studies and synoptic A02 points. Range / Breadth Have you presented and explained a good variety of points? Depth/ Detailed Have you fully explained all your points in detail to show the ‘depth’ of your understanding? Elaboration! Well Structured /Coherent Have you structured your arguments in a clear logical order? Does it flow? Have you made links and used connectives?
8. 8. Look at the mark scheme for a 24 marker and answer the questions.. Key Term What it means in the context of the mark scheme Accurate/ Relevant You have selected the correct material to answer the question. Issues, Debates & Approaches This is your synoptic A02 (IDA). Terminology Have you used the psychological key terms and if so, have you used them correctly? Punctuation, Grammar & Spelling The quality of your English is also assessed. Superficial/ Rudimentary AVOID THIS AT ALL COSTS. Your work is superficial or rudimentary if your explanation doesn’t adequately show that you understand. Elaborate and explain to show the examiner what you mean!
9. 9. Look at the mark scheme for a 24 marker and answer the questions.. POINT Make your point. Reward/Need Theory of relationship formation argues that relationships are formed on the basis of classical conditioning and association. EVIDENCE Support it with psychological research. May and Hamilton (1980) conducted an experiment to look at the role that association played in relationship formation. They got females to evaluate photos of men whilst they were listening to three different types of music which induced three different types of mood. EXPLAIN Explain what the research shows or suggests. Females evaluated the men most positively when listening to a piece of rock music which induced a positive mood. This suggests that we find mates most attractive when we associate them with a positive feeling or experience. LINK Link it back to your point or the question. This supports the Reward/Need theory of relationship formation as it implies that we form relationships on the basis of learning through association.
10. 10. Look at the mark scheme for a 24 marker and answer the questions.. Create two PEEL’s of your own. Create one PEEL for Reward/Need Theory and one for Filter Model of relationship formation. Be prepared to share yours later! Have you finished? Try creating a PEEL for an Evaluation A02 point…
11. 11. “Describe and evaluate two theories of the formation of relationships” (24 Marks, A01 = 8 marks, A02/A03 = 16 marks) In a moment you are going to plan an answer to the above question. You will be writing it out properly for homework. But first… let’s see what content you need to include to aim for the maximum 24 marks…
12. 12. “Describe and evaluate two theories of the formation of relationships” (24 Marks, A01 = 8 marks, A02/A03 = 16 marks) 8 marks Knowledge & Understanding Describe each of the theories above in about 100-150 words. Make 4 clear A01 points with elaboration / explanation. 12 marks Evaluation (Synoptic & Evidence) Explain 4 A02 points for each theory with elaboration. Try and include at least 1 IDA evaluation and 1 piece of research evidence for each theory. Select a range of positive and negative A02 points. Each point should be about 50 words. You should have 8 well explained A02 points in total. 4 marks Evaluation of Methods/Studies Evaluate the methods of studies/evidence. Make at least 1 point per study used and explain fully why it is a positive/negative evaluation of the study.
13. 13. “Describe and evaluate two theories of the formation of relationships” (24 Marks, A01 = 8 marks, A02/A03 = 16 marks) You may now use the rest of the lesson to plan out your essay. You will have to complete the full essay answer for homework. The last 5 minutes of the lesson will be spent sharing your ideas.
