PSYCHOPATHOLOGY: SCHIZOPHRENIA SCHEME OF WORK – approx 20 lessons This is what the Specification (2012) outlines: Candidates will be expected to: • develop knowledge and understanding of schizophrenia • apply knowledge and understanding of models, classification and diagnosis to schizophrenia. Candidates should be familiar with the following: • Clinical characteristics of the schizophrenia • Issues surrounding the classification and diagnosis of schizophrenia, including reliability and validity • Biological explanations of schizophrenia, for example, genetics, biochemistry • Psychological explanations of schizophrenia, for example, behavioural, cognitive, psychodynamic and socio-cultural • Biological therapies for schizophrenia, including their evaluation in terms of appropriateness and effectiveness • Psychological therapies for schizophrenia, for example, behavioural, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioural, including their evaluation in terms of appropriateness and effectiveness Below is a suggested scheme of work. I have indicated when formal assessments are needed, but please add your own homework. Please refer to the electronic documents for further resources. I recommend using “Psychology A2: The Complete Companion Student Book” by Cardwell & Flanagan as your key book and also Psychology A2 for AQA (A) by Lawton, Gross & Rolls.
