Advanced Searching/ Building a List

  1. ReferenceUSA-­‐  How  to  Build  a   List/  Advanced  Search  
  2. 1.  Select  the  Database   Once  you  have  signed  into  ReferenceUSA,  select  the  database  you  want  to  search.  
  3. 2.  Select  Advanced  Search  Select  Advanced  search  or  Build  a  list.  
  4. 3.  Select  your  search  criteria   On  the  leA  hand  side,  select  the  criteria  you  will  use  to  filter  your  search.    New  windows  will  open  in  the  center   column  of  the  page.     Ex:  If  you  are  searching  for  all  restaurants  in  Chicago,  IL  select  for  Keyword/SIC/NAICS  and  City/State.      
  5. 4.  Enter  your  search  Parameters    In  the  windows  in  the  center  of  the  page  complete  your  search  criteria.    You  will  either  search  and  select  the   criteria,  select  the  criteria  from  a  tree  diagram,  or  select  the  criteria  from  a  list.  Ensure  your  have  selected  your   results  by  clicking  on  the  criteria  you  want  to  search  by.    The  selected  results  show  up  in  the  selected  window.  
  6. 5.  View  Results   Press  the  update  count  buPon  to  view  how  many  records  fit  your  search  criteria.    Adjust  the  search  criteria  as   needed.      
  7. 6.  View  Results   When  you  have  finished  narrowing  your  search  select  the  view  results  buPon.    
  8. 7.  Results  Page   You  can  now  view  the  results  of  the  companies  that  fit  the  criteria  from  your  search.    From  here  you  can  review   your  search,  view  detailed  records,  see  heat  maps,  summaries  or  charts,  print  records  or  save  your  search.
