Farmland in the Piedmont Region <ul><li>Piedmont means “foot of the mountain” </li></ul><ul><li>The Piedmont’s elevation is higher than the Atlantic Coastal Plain. </li></ul><ul><li>The Piedmont is a plateau with gently rolling hills and valleys. </li></ul><ul><li>The soil is rich and makes the land ideal for farming. </li></ul>
  3. 4. Farmland in the Piedmont Region <ul><li>Because of the region’s many rivers and fertile land, Daniel Boone’s family settled in Berks County where he was born in 1734. </li></ul>

The Amish <ul><li>Lancaster County is home to many members of the Amish community. </li></ul><ul><li>Most Amish people farm for a living. </li></ul><ul><li>The Amish are religious people who live as their ancestors did. They do not use many of the modern conveniences in their homes. They use horses and carriages instead of cars. </li></ul><ul><li>They are very productive! </li></ul>
