  2. 2. PeRsoNaL DeSigN PHiLoSoPhY What truly inspires and motivates me is taking a space and making it ‘make sense’ for the intended user. Functionality is the major driving force behind my person- al design process. In particular, I find myself being very considerate of how one will walk through and use a space, and therefore constantly visualizing flow and adjacency needs. I feel very strongly that the flow should be comfortable and effortless. User’s needs are also central to concept development and space planning. The concept of a design should establish the foundation for space planning. In or- der for a designer to develop a concept they must get to know the client/users, location, surroundings, intended use, etc.. I am always inspired by spaces that carry a clear, consistent, design concept throughout, from architectural layout and features to the finishes, furnishings and materials. When the design is not consistent or complimentary, spaces feel incomplete and disjointed, and there- fore do not meet the client’s needs. I have been greatly influenced by the design styles of designers such as Paul Frankl, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Frank Gehry. These designers define what de- sign is all about. Listening to the users, considering surroundings, climates, functional needs, emotional needs, and aesthetic needs while giving it a touch of the designer’s personal flare. By simply being inspired by a location and the intended feeling one wants to experience while in that space, a design takes on a mind of its own.
  3. 3. LaUDo GRAPHIC DESIGN FIRM SCOPE OF WORK: To convert 8,057 Sq.Ft. on the ground floor of a 2-story contempo- rary-style building located in Phoenix, Arizona into a sophisticated, urban branch of the graphic design firm ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN called ‘LAUDO’ for two well-known graphic designers from New York City. The partners (owners) wish to inte- grate a sense of modernity through architectural detailing, contemporary space planning, and new office con- cepts using appropriate furniture and finishes in the interior renovation. They want to incorporate a collection of artwork by Donald Judd, Dan Fla- vin, Damien Hirst, and Vija Clemins, if possible. A new logo is also re- quired as part of the contract. INSPIRATIONAL IMAGES One of the owners is wheel-chair bound, therefore all public areas must be ADA compliant.

Work space for designers spread between the offices, providing separate desk space for each designer, however only half-height wall partitions sepa- rating them to allow for impromptu collaboration. Layout & in-house production stations and moveable seating are provided throughout.
