  4. 4. Tawney and theBauhaus School Bauhaus School: Funded by Walter Gropius in Weimar in 1919 (operated until 1933 - school was eventually closed due to pressure under the Nazi regime). Mission was to combine craft arts and fine arts, eradicating heavy ornamentation and focusing on function, harmonizing object and design. Merged craft tradition with industrial technology. Was seen as design for the masses, prompted by industry – Supported “good” design for every eye, regardless of class.
