Res House At St Pete Clay

  1. 1. May 12, 2009. Resurrection House Auxiliary “field trip” to St. Petersburg Clay Company. This is the cover of a book that we photographed to show one of the ovens on their property.
  2. 2. Stan Cowen, Charlie Parker and Russ Gustafson-Hilton founded St. Petersburg Clay Company, Inc. in 1996. World renowned clay artist Charlie Parker greets Resurrection House Auxiliary members as they join him for a tour and as he creates one of his beautiful works of art.
  3. 3. Charlie begins with a 25 lb. block of clay!
  4. 4. Yes, Charlie is pounding the clay against the wheel.
  5. 5. The clay is out of the bag, and Charlie begins working with it.
  6. 6. Beginning to round out. Yes, that’s a bat on the table – one of the “special” tools Charlie uses.
  7. 7. Watch the top of the clay as Charlie begins forming.
  8. 8. That small piece at the top is lopped off and will make its way to the oven.
  9. 9. Not sure what Charlie is doing – is this a slam dunk about to happen?
  10. 10. Aha! Charlie presses down and begins to form the well.
  11. 11. So it’s beginning to really look like something. Charlie makes it look so easy, but looks – in this case – really are deceiving!
  12. 12. Getting closer.
  13. 13. Here’s where that special tool came in. Go Rays!
  14. 14. Isn’t this magnificent?
  15. 15. Close up to show detail.
  16. 16. Thanks so much, Chelley, for arranging the tour, demonstration, & lunch.
  17. 17. SAVE THE DATE The Resurrection House Auxiliary annual event will feature the works of talented, non-professional artists. Charlie will be there Friday evening with other artists to talk about the displayed work. It will be available for silent auction the next day at our brunch and fashion magic makeover. You won’t want to miss this!
