  3. 3. 1) Virus/Malware/Spyware Removal<br />Restart the computer and constantly tap the F8 key <br />(half-a-second intervals) until a menu appears, <br />and select: SAFE-MODE WITH NETWORKING.<br />When the desktop loads, open an Internet browser and navigate to the Malwarebytes (www.malwarebytes.com) website. <br />Download and run the free version of their excellent anti-malware tool. Run a FULL SCAN and remove any infections found.<br />Next download and run Hitman Pro free scan (http://www.surfright.nl), for more infection removal.   4. 4. 2) Microsoft Windows Update<br />Start the computer and click the Start button or orb, and under the programs menu click Windows Update.<br />Download and install all critical updates. Also the optional updates can contain updates that are applicable for your computer hardware, which will improve efficiency.   5. 5. 3) Clean-up rubbish and temporary files<br />Overtime your computer collects a lot of temporary and obsolete files that it doesn't need. Go to the www.piriform.com website and download the free CCleaner utility. <br />Select all boxes apart from "Wipe free space" at the bottom…<br />Press "Run Cleaner". Once that is done click on the "Registry" button and select all the check boxes. Then press "Scan for Issues", when 100% complete click the "Fix selected issues" button, repeat these steps until all registry issues are resolved.<br />To complete the clean-up process go to Start menu -> All programs (not XP) -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk cleanup.   6. 6. 4) Check disk<br />Open Start menu -> My Computer. Right-click the C: drive and choose Properties.<br />Click the Tools tab at the top. Click the Check now button.   7. 7. 5) Disk defragmenter<br />Open Start menu -> My Computer.<br />Right-click the C: drive and choose Properties.<br />Click the Tools tab at the top.
