After graduating from the UW School of Law in 1999, I went to work at Lee Smart, a medium sized firm focused on insurance defense (defending persons accused of negligence where the representation is paid under an insurance policy). In 2000 I moved my practice to Kingman Peabody and focused almost entirely on defending claims of medical malpractice. By 2004 I was essentially burned out by this litigation-intensive practice, so I took a position as in house legal counsel for Group Health Cooperative. Unfortunately, "big business" just wasn't for me. I missed the close relationships with individual clients, plus I suddenly appreciated the subtle insights of the comic strip Dilbert. Luck..
