TECHNICAL ANALYSIS: QE INDEX AND KEY STOCKS TO CONSIDER
QE Index: Short-Term – Downmove
The QE Index continued its decline for the third straight session and
fell around 27 points (-0.24%). The index retreated from its intraday
high of 11,398.62 as sustained selling pulled it below the 11,350.0
level. The index is currently trading close to its important support of
11,338.41. Any penetration below this level may lead to a drop
toward the 55-day moving average followed by 11,300.0. However, if
the index manages to cling onto 11,338.41, it may move higher.
Qatar International Islamic Bank: Short-Term – Upmove
QIIK continued its upmove yesterday after moving above the
resistance of QR71.50 on Thursday. The next upside target is
QR72.80. We believe the stock may continue to rise and advance
further until it trades above the QR71.50 level. However, a decline
below this level may drag the stock to test its 55-day moving average.
Meanwhile, the RSI is moving toward the mid-line in a bullish manner,
thus supporting our positive technical outlook for the stock.
Al Rayan Islamic Index: Short-Term – Neutral
The QERI Index snapped its six-day winning run and shed -0.24% on
the back of profit-booking after witnessing a strong rally over the past
few days. The index also dipped below the 3,481.42 level as the
bears proved to be more dominant than the bulls. Meanwhile, the
index needs to reclaim the 3,481.42 level in order to continue its
advance. On the flip side, any failure to move above 3,481.42 may
witness further selling, which may pull the index to test 3,458.51.
Gulf International Services: Short-Term – Downmove
GISS penetrated below the QR78.80 level on the back of large
volumes which is a negative signal. Moreover, the stock has been
registering losses over the past few days since topping the rally at
QR86.60. Given the immediate support at QR75.20 is still some
distance away from the current price, GISS’ immediate outlook
remains bearish. However, if the stock manages to reclaim QR78.80
it may halt its downmove. Both the indicators are pointing down.
Milaha: Short-Term – Upmove
QNNS moved above the QR93.0 level and breached the resistance
of its 21-day moving average. The recent price action indicates that
QNNS is likely to advance further and test QR95.10. If the stock
manages to clear this level it may spark additional buying interest,
which may push it further and test QR96.50. However, a dip below
the 21-day moving average may result in a pullback. The RSI has
rejected the mid-line and is moving up in a bullish manner.
Nakilat: Short-Term – Downmove
QGTS dipped below the support of QR19.50 and caved under selling
pressure. We believe although the stock is trading close to its
immediate support of QR19.28, it is unlikely that the stock may cling
onto it and drift lower to test its immediate support at QR18.96.
However, if the stock manages to hold onto the QR19.28 level, it may
advance. Meanwhile, with both the indicators in downtrend mode
QGTS’ preferred direction seems to be on the downside.

Overall Methodology: The charts and descriptions on Page 1 provide an indicative view of the future direction of the equities mentioned. The table on page 2 has been provided to denote historical movements in certain stocks. The historical trend analysis uses 21- and 55-
day SMAs for indicating short-term and long-term trends, respectively. Based on these SMAs, the historical direction of the trend is denoted as UP, DOWN or FLAT.
Selection of Key Stocks of the Day: Key stocks’ selection is based on our analysis of 19 members of the QE Index (excludes QNBK QD). Analysis includes identifying trends (short-term as well as long-term), patterns and support/resistance levels.
Trend Direction: The methods used to determine trend direction are subjective in nature. We use 21-day SMA and 55-day SMA, absolute price movements, price movements relative to SMAs and accurately drawn trend lines and chart patterns to determine the short- and
Investment Horizon: The definition of short term and long term depends upon investors’ preferences and their investment objectives. As a rule of thumb, the time horizon for traders/short-term trend is 1-3 weeks while it is 1-3 months for investors/long-term trend.
Combining Technical and Fundamental Analysis: Investors can combine technical analysis (TA) with fundamental analysis (FA) to maximize their investment returns. While the “True Value” of stocks could be estimated by FA, the entry and exit timings could be fine
tuned using technical analysis to benefit from short-term movements in stock prices.
Trading Tactics: The trend direction should be analyzed based on the time-horizon of your investments. In general, investors attempt selling close to resistance levels during a downtrend and attempt buying close to support levels during uptrend.
1> Simple Moving Average (SMA): A SMA is the average of the closing price of a security for a given period.
2> RSI (Relative Strength Index): A technical momentum indicator that ranges from 0 to 100 and compares the stock’s recent price movements by evaluating recent gains and losses. Stocks with RSI above 70 could be considered overbought and below 30 could be
considered oversold. If the RSI falls below 70, it is a bearish signal. On the other hand, if the RSI rises above 30 it is considered bullish. We use a RSI of 14 days.
3> MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence): MACD denotes the relationship between two moving averages, which is used to spot changes in strength, direction, momentum and duration of a stock price trend. The MACD is calculated by subtracting the 26-day
exponential moving average (EMA) from the 12-day EMA. A nine-day EMA of the MACD, called the signal line, is also plotted on top of the MACD, functioning as a trigger for buy/sell signals. The MACD line above the signal line provides a positive signal and vice versa.
