  2. Plant introduction When plant variety is brought from its old geographical area and first grown in a new geographical area it is called plant introduction It is of two types (1) Primary introduction (2) Secondary introduction
  3. Primary introduction  When the introduced variety is adapted to the environment of the new geographical area it is distributed to the farmers without changing it this is called primary introduction Secondary introduction  When the introduced variety is not adapted to the environment of the new geographical area it is modified by selection and hybridising it with the local variety and then distributed to the farmers this is called secondary introduction
  4. Plant introduction is completed in 6 steps  (1) procurement  (2) Quarantine  (3) Cataloguing  (4) Evaluation  (5) Maltiplication  (6) Distribution
  5.  Procurement  Hh  jAcquisition of plant material can be done in 4 ways  (1) Gifting  (2) Exchanges  (3) Purchasing  (4) Exploration
  6. Plant Quarantine  The process of ensuring that seeds propagules and plant products imported from outside are free from diseases,pests and weeds it called plant Quarantine ( The Destructive insects and pests act was passed in 1914 there are 4 plant Quarantine centre’s in india)
  7.  NBPGR,New Delhi  ( National bureau of plant genetic resources)  For plant species related agricultural and horticulture Crops FRI, Dehradun  ( Forest research institute)  For Forest trees
  8. IBS , kolkata  ( Indian botanical survey)  For other plants DPPQS, Faridabad  ( Directorate of plant protection Quarantine and storage)  For food material
  9. Cataloguing  Introduced materials are listed in three groups  EC- Exotic collection ( from other countries)  IW- indigenous wild ( wild relative in india)  NC- National collection ( in india)
  10. Evaluation  The newly introduced variety is grown at 5 center of NBGPR to evaluate the yield and other characteristics prepare the list based on the data Multiplication and distribution  When the yield and other characteristics of the evaluated variety are superior to the prevalent improved variety it is released as a new variety seed production and seed distribution is done by seed corporations
