  2. 2. Introducing New Features in PsycINFO: Starting Your Research on EBSCOhost These slides contain supporting material for a post on the APA Databases & Electronic Resources Blog Introducing New Features in PsycINFO: Starting Your Research on EBSCOhost
  3. 3. In August, PsycINFO® added new fields and features to help researchers like you search with greater precision and to include more information right in the record. Four of the new fields are particularly useful as you begin a research project or assignment. They can help you quickly narrow down search results and spot more information about the topic and why it is important. Introducing New Features in PsycINFO
  4. 4. • Impact Statement - A summary like an abstract, but instead of describing the technical process, it explains the relevance of the research to the general public. This can help to justify a research project, especially if you are applying for a grant. • Open Access – The open access icon indicates that the full-text is available through open access. This provides access to resources beyond PsycINFO. Four New Fields in PsycINFO
  5. 5. • Data Sets - A description of the data set is provided, as well as links for access or download when available. Looking at the data yourself enables you to better understand the research conducted in the published study, and to identify your own project that builds on this previous work. Four New Fields in PsycINFO • Dissertation Details - Advisor(s), Degree, Institution and Department are included in the PsycINFO record. This helps you to find leaders in evolving areas of research, or note other disciplines that are working on similar topics.
  6. 6. Setting Up Your Search • Select the checkboxes for Open Access and/or Impact Statement Available • This limits your search results to records that meet these requirements
  7. 7. Search Results Page • Records available through open access are indicated by the orange icons
  8. 8. Examining the Record • If you click the title of the item on your search results list, the orange open access icon appears beside the title at the top of the record
  9. 9. Examining the Record • The Impact Statement appears right under the scientific abstract
  10. 10. Examining the Record • Dissertation Details include ordering and publication information • Data Set Description is provided by the author or publisher • Data Set Access links to a repository website or prompts a .zip file download
