  4. 4. LEARN ABOUT!!!!! <ul><li>African cultures, like many other cultures have proverbs. Proverbs are short sayings with a message that teaches a lesson. In this activity you will learn more about African proverbs. </li></ul>
  5. 5. The Process: Exploring the Web, Creating a Product Exploring the Web <ul><li>1. Visit one or more of the following web sites to read various African Proverbs. </li></ul><ul><li>2. Pick one proverb that applies to your life. </li></ul><ul><li>3. Copy the proverb and it's meaning (if it is given) or find out the meaning. </li></ul>

COOL SITES!!! <ul><li>Swahili/Kanga readings - This site has a long list of African proverbs written in Swahili, translated into English with their meaning explained. </li></ul><ul><li>Akan Goldweights- This site lists African proverbs and uses African gold weights to illustrate them. It also gives the meaning of the proverb. </li></ul><ul><li>African Proverbs, Sayings and Stories- This site is more of a challenge. It lists many African proverbs, but it doesn't give their meaning. You would need to find the meaning by reading the proverb, making an educated guess about its meaning and then checking with your teacher or another knowledgable person to make sure you're correct. </li></ul>
  7. 7. CHOOSE YOURS !!! <ul><li>1. Pick your proverb </li></ul><ul><li>2. Write an interpretation of the proverb. In your paragraph, explain in your own words, what the lesson of the proverb is and what it means. </li></ul>

DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT <ul><li>Option 1: Using a draw or paint program on the computer, word process your proverb and illustrate it using African symbols you've found either on the site listed right after these instructions or from sources provided by your teacher. Copy your interpretation of the proverb on the back of your paper. </li></ul><ul><li>Option 2: If you can't use a draw or paint program, copy your proverb on a plain white piece of paper with your best handwriting, and illustrate your proverb with African art and/or symbols using art work that you draw by hand. Copy your interpretation of the proverb on the back of your paper. </li></ul>
  9. 9. ADD ART WITH MORE COOL SITES!!! <ul><li>African Symbols - Scroll down to the symbols section of this site. You can click on any of the blue words to see African symbols and art. </li></ul><ul><li>African mask graphics </li></ul><ul><li>African animal graphics </li></ul>
  10. 10. When Complete I will look for: <ul><li>Your paragraph will be graded on correct interpretation of the proverb, correct spelling and grammar. You illustration needs to use African symbols or art to creatively enhance your proverb, be in color and neatly done. </li></ul>
