Prayer Cloud Over the Sea of Galilee By Karen Barber Prayer Igniters International
Sea of Galilee Monday Sept. 26, 2011I was snapping photos of the Sea of Galilee onSept. 26, 2011. I’m not photographer. I don’teven know how to focus a camera! I was using aSony Cyber-shot 8.1 mega pixel camera set onautomatic focus. This shot was taken randomly from inside of amoving tour bus as we drove around the Sea ofGalilee in Israel nearing Tiberias around noon. Ihad been clicking shots because there was alovely reflection of the mountains on the distantshore in the lake that day.
Bad Shots from a Moving BusMost of my shots weren’t good becausebetween the time I clicked and the camerarecorded the shot, the bus would move andthere would be a power pole or some otherflaw to the scene, often even a glare from theglass of the window.
An Unusual Cloud Around the CurveAs the bus wound around curves we haddifferent views of the lake. Then I took threeshots that showed an unusual cloud cominginto view.
Pleasing CompositionWhen I downloaded my photos I really likedthis one because of the colors andcomposition. But I didn’t look at the cloudclosely until Oct. 27, 2011 when a friend saidshe’d like to see my shots of the mountainsreflected in the Sea of Galilee.
What Do You See in the Cloud? In order to better see the cloud, I copied itinto a Word Document and cropped it so Icould enlarge the cloud. I don’t know how tochange and enhance photos other than toenlarge them and change the size, so thisphoto has not been enhanced in any way. When I enlarged the cloud I began to seeinteresting details that suggested angels in thecloud.
Angel with Outstretched HandThe top blue arrow in the preceding picturepoints out the face of an angel with thick curlyhair facing forward. Next to the head on theleft is the left wing. The bottom arrow pointsout the angel’s outstretched hand, which ispalm upwards.
Angel Kneeling in PrayerThe arrows in the previous picture show thefigure of a kneeling angel with the back turned. The arrow on top left points out hands clasped infront of the head and the forehead of the angelresting on the praying hands. An arrow on theright points out the right wing. Arrows on thebottom indicate the outline of the robe as theangel kneels. The middle right arrow shows thatwithin the angel’s robe you can see a veryslight, irregular heart shape.
Moses Resting on a PillowUnder the arrow in the previous picture is asmall cameo of a face that looks like the greatleader of Israel, Moses who is often picturedwith a long beard. He seems to be lyingpeacefully on a pillow.
St. Paul Blinded by the LightThe arrow in the previous picture points outanother cameo face that looks like St. Paullooking upward toward heaven. He wasblinded by an intense light on the Road toDamascus. In the light Christ himself appearedto Paul. Up until this point, Paul had been aviolent opponent of the new Christianmovement and this experience was hismilestone conversion to Christianity.
What Does it Mean?I don’t know if this is a divine sign, but I dobelieve that God can use anything in creationto help us meditate deeply on the unseenspiritual realm. My calling is to encourageChristian prayer and to help others becomecloser to God by using creative ways tomediate and pray. (www.prayerideas.org )Here’s a meditation that came to me duringmy morning prayer time about these strangeand glorious clouds.
Meditation on the angelsBecause of the praying angel, I saw this as amessage about prayer. The kneeling angelrepresents the act of prayer. The angel with theoutstretched hand represents God’s responses inanswer to our prayers. The outstretched handmight in some cases bring us the things werequest. At other times it might reassure us thateven when our situations don’t change for thebetter, God reaches out to us with his comfortingpresence when we must go through times ofdifficulty.
Meditation on Moses and PaulThe cameo appearances of Moses and Paulrepresent the Bible. Moses is the great lawgiver of the Old Testament and Paul is thegreat letter writer of the New Testament.Specifically, Paul wrote in Romans of hownone of us are able to keep the law of Mosesbut how through Grace we are saved by thedeath and resurrection of Jesus our Lord inwhom we have new life and become newcreatures.
The Heart in the Angel’s RobeThe slight impression of a heart in the angel’srobe shows the centrality of love in our prayerrelationship with God – both His love for usand our love for Him. Prayer is aboutrelationship. Prayer is God’s gift to us as ameans through which we might enjoy Hiscomforting presence.
