  2. 2. आशयशारीर - described in 5th chapter of Sushrut Shaarir sthan “शरीरसंख्याव्याकरणशारीरम्” - आशय - आशयोऽधिष्ठानम् it is the seat of perticular Dosh, Dhatu or mala in the human body. - It provides aashray to Dosh, Dhatu, Mala.
  3. 3. धात्वाशयान्तरक्लेदो विपक्वः स्वंस्वमूष्मणा ||९|| श्लेष्मस्नाय्िपराच्छन्नः कलाख्यः काष्ठसारित् | ताः सप्त कलाख्यं भािमाख्याय, आधाराख्यान् भािानाह || सप्त चाधारा रक्तस्याद्यः क्रमात् परे ||१०|| कफामवपत्तपक्वानां िायोमूूत्रस्य च स्मृताः | गभाूशयोऽष्टमः स्त्रीणां वपत्तपक्वाशयान्तरे ||११|| - The Kala is formed by the action of perticular dhatwagni on the Kleda ( residual after formation of saarbhut dhatu by dhatwagni). This Kleda lies between Aashay & Dhatu (may be dhatu, mala) forming the seperating layer. - There are 7 types of kala.
  4. 4. - Dhaaran of perticular dhatu in the Ashay is the basic function. - Aashay are providing the base (Aadhar) for the attachment of Kala through which major function of perticular aashay & its strotas is executed. - These Aashay are described in the sequence of Dhatu …eg- Rasdhatu, Raktadhatu..etc as described by Sarvangsundari commentary of Astanghruday.

  9. 9. 1) Vaatashay –  पक्वाशयकटीसक्थिश्रोत्राक्थथथस्पशूनेक्थियम्| थथानं िातस्य, तत्रावप पक्वाधानं विशेषतः ||१||  Sharangdhar samhita Purvakhand 5 दोषथथानान्यत ऊर्ध्वं िक्ष्यामः- तत्र समासेन िातः श्रोवणगुदसंश्रयः तदुपयूधो नाभेः पक्वाशयः, पक्वामाशयमध्यं वपत्तस्य; आमाशयः श्लेष्मणः ||६|| Su. Su 21
  10. 10. 2) Pittashay –  नावभरामाशयः स्वेदो लसीका रुवधरं रसः | दृक ् स्पशूनं च वपत्तस्य, नावभरत्र विशेषतः II अ. ह्रु. शा. 12/02  स्वेदो रसो लसीका रुवधरमामाशयश्च वपत्तथथानावन, तत्राप्यामाशयो विशेषेण वपत्तथथानम्; च. सू. 20/8 - Amashay ( Urdhwa Amashay – kaphsthan, Adhoamashay – Pittasthan……….Chakrapani ) - Nabhi, sweda, Rakta, Sparsha, Vision are the ashray of Pitta.
  11. 11. 3) Shleshmashay – उरः वशरो ग्रीिा पिाूण्यामाशयो मेदश्च श्लेष्मथथानावन, तत्राप्युरो विशेषेण श्लेष्मथथानम् ||८|| च. सू. 20/8 It must be considered at mainly Urosthan, Shira- Greeva- Parva (sandhisthan), also Meda, Aamashay. 4) Raktashay –  शोवणतस्य [१] थथानं यक ृ त्प्लीहानौ, Su. Su 21/16 Yakrut & Pleeha are the Ashray for Shonit (production house).
  12. 12. 5) Aamashay :- It lies between umbulicus and midpoint of nipples. It is ashray for Kapha, ranjak pitta, Samaan vaayu, Aam Anna (Undigested Aahar)
  13. 13. 6) Pakwashay :- The food after first phase of digestion in aamashay, comes in Grahani (deodenum) where quality pitta dosha is produced. It digests the food & completes the second phase of digestion..
  14. 14. Then the food is sent to Pakwashay for 3rd phase. Here the food is further digested & dried by the Agni & vata dosha and it is transformed into the stool having hardness & shape.
  15. 15. 7) Mutrashay :- The micro vessels from Pakwashay contribute in the formation of urine in basti ( urinary bladder )by the reabsorption. This ayurvedic phenomenon is described as the rivers coming from various directions are finally draining into the ocean. The basti is also called as Malaadhar, Praan aayatan ( house, support, resting place of Praan).
  16. 16. 8) Garbhashay :- The uterus is placed between pittashay & Pakwashay. The embryo is implanted in it. The yoni in females is considered as made up three layers. Its cavity is like Shankhnaabhi ( Navel of conch) i.e. hollow in the middle.
  17. 17. The first outer layer is Vagina – Apatyapath second middle layer is Cervix – Garbhashay mukh third inner layer is uterus - Garbhashayya
  18. 18. KOSTHA
  19. 19. According to Charak acharya, the organs related to Annavahi mahastrotas (Alimentary canal/ Digestive system from mouth to anus) and which are placed in thoarcic & abdominal cavity can be taken as Koshta. Synonyms of Koshtha :- Mahanimna, Aam-pakwashay, Sharir madhya, Mahastrot.
  20. 20. Koshtha are locations of various organs related to Alimentary canal. (the places of various Metabolic activities) 1. Aamsthan 2. Agnisthan 3. Pakwasthan 4. Mutrasthan 5. Rudhirsthan 6. Hruday 7. Unduk 8. Phuphus
  21. 21. Koshthang are described by Acharya Charak but not by Acharya Sushrut. Koshtang are 15 in number. पञ्चदश कोष्ठाङ्गावन; तद्यथा- 1. नावभश्च, 9. आमाशयश्च, 2. हृदयं च, 10. पक्वाशयश्च, 3. क्लोम च, 11. उत्तरगुदं च, (Rectum) 4. यक ृ च्च, 12. अधरगुदं च, (Anus) 5. प्लीहा च, 13. क्षुद्रान्त्रं च,(small intestine) 6. िृक्कौ च, 14. थथूलान्त्रं (Large intestine) 7. बक्थस्तश्च, 15. िपािहनं (Omentum) 8. पुरीषाधारश्च (Sigmoid colon) Cha. Sh. 7/10
  22. 22.  Vruddha vagbhata has not considered :- 1. Nabhi 2. Kloma 3. Aamashay 4. Pakwashay 5. Uttargud 6. Adhargud 7. Vapavahan 8. Kshudrantra 9. Sthulantra in Koshthang, but considered :- 1. Phuphhus 2. Antrani (commonly for kshudrantra, sthulantra) Kosthang = 08
  23. 23.  Laghuvagbhata has not considered :- 1. Aamashay 2. Pakwashay 3. Uttargud 4. Adhargud 5. Vapavahan 6. Kshudrantra 7. Sthulantra in Kosthang, but considered :- 1. Phuphhus 2. Antrani (commonly for kshudrantra, sthulantra) 3. Dimbha (ovaries) Kosthang = 11
