Considering safety in all phases of a construction project, even nearing the end somethings may not seem important but are still necessary to decrease injury on the job site and reduce liability.

Construction Safety.

  1. 1. Considering Safety nearing completion of a Project
  2. 2. Approaching the Project <ul><li>Newly Constructed addition to a pre-existing building. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Analyzing the present state <ul><li>Rough masonry and metal lath with beading to prepare for masonry finish application. </li></ul><ul><li>Scaffolding is erect and set up with 1926 CFR code standard </li></ul>
  4. 4. Taking a Look Inside <ul><li>The upper deck shows the main channel A/C ductwork above it, where it is 6’ above the lower walking/working surface and has to have a guardrail system for fall protection. </li></ul><ul><li>According to OSHA guideline 1926.501.b.1: A guardrail system has to be installed 3.5 feet along this unprotected edge. </li></ul><ul><li>The galvanized stud framing is exposed on side of wall and along the lobby entrance. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Progress changes since then: <ul><li>Here there is an intermediate phase where insulation is installed between the galvanized channels. </li></ul><ul><li>Drywall covers the studs and insulation creating a rough wall surface. </li></ul>
  6. 6. More drywall <ul><li>Drywall being installed throughout the whole building. In which the scratch coat application is done in preparation for the 2 more finishes for a more refined look. </li></ul><ul><li>Galvanized studs are placed erect to create a partition for that space once sheet insulation and drywall is installed </li></ul>
  7. 7. Exploring the Site Surroundings <ul><li>Safety is taken into consideration to restrict entrance by the presence of the barricades around this area. </li></ul><ul><li>Also, very good application of safety sense by placing barricade right over open man hole. </li></ul>

  9. 9. Equipment involved <ul><li>Certain types of equipment are used in this project for purposes of lifting or digging. </li></ul><ul><li>In which you also see materials placed in proximity to where that type of work is carried out </li></ul>
  10. 10. Labor for this aspect of work <ul><li>With a 2 man crew of carpenters with a daily output of 2000SF/Daily,with a building with about 60000sf of drywall: </li></ul><ul><li>It should take 30 days to install the drywall throughout the building. </li></ul>
