  1. 1. Democracy was born in Greece, in Athens, in 510 BC.
  2. 2.  The American president Lincoln defined democracy in 1863 as "Government of the people, by the people, for the people". Demos (The People) + Kratia (Rule/Power)

  6. 6. • Democracy started in Greece but it wasn’t perfect. • Slaves, women and foreigners couldn’t vote. • Only those who were considered citizens could vote. • Greek Democracy only lasted 200 years Vote
  7. 7. • Democracy was asleep for more than 2000 years. • Democracy was set again with the French Revolution (1789) and the American Revolution (1776).
  8. 8.  So a ModernModern type of democracy started;  The british philosopher John Locke was the first to say that there should be a separation between the legislativea separation between the legislative power and the judicial power.power and the judicial power.
