  2. 2. INTRODUCTION Life does not on its own, give you joy, peace, good health and success. All it gives you is space and time. For many persons in today’s world, time is a big problem. They work hard from early in the morning to late in the evening, and despite this they are involved in a continuous fight for time and they never seem to win. So what is Time?
  3. 3. TIME is A dimension in which events can be ordered from the past through the present into the future A measure of duration of events and intervals between them
  4. 4. An indefinite continuing progress of existence and events in the past present and future regarded as a whole.
  5. 5. TIME Time is: Invaluable; Indispensable; Irreplaceable; Given to everyone without any discrimination and you cannot accomplish anything without it.
  6. 6. Every man has the same 24 hours in a day 7 days in a week. 168 hours per week, 10,080 minutes per week, and 604,800 seconds per week.

  9. 9. ACTIVITY 1 Form a buzz group (Pair up/group of 3) • Discuss all your tasks/activities in a day • Outline the challenges of accomplishing these tasks • Outline any 2 methods of overcoming these challenges. • 3 minutes

SELF MANAGEMENT MATRIX URGENT NOT URGENT IMPORTANT 1 Activities: Crises; Pressing Problems; Deadline-driven Projects etc 2 Activities: Prevention; Relationship Building; Scanning for and Maximizing opportunities; Meditation; Planning; Recreation; Forecasting; Acquiring relevant skills etc NOT IMPORTANT 3 Activities; Interruptions; Sudden calls; some mail; some meeting; popular activities; pressing matters 4 Activities: Trivia, some irrelevant phone calls; pleasant activities; time wasters; Responding to junk mails
  11. 11. TECHNIQUES IN TIME MANAGEMENT Being focused – Think and Reflect on what you have to do Determine your goals – Specific/Clear Measurable Achievable Realistic Time bound/limits
  12. 12. Make detailed plan - For an achiever, planning and goal setting is a responsibility and not an option. Use a ‘To-Do’ List – Daily, weekly, monthly basis Develop blocks of time – carve out blocks of time in a day/period when you can work uninterrupted.
  13. 13. Set priorities – 5 levels – must be done should be done nice to do could be delegated could be eliminated Over come procrastination – Golden rule of “Do it now”
  14. 14. Control interruptions – Use do not disturb signs to put off people. Set time limits on any discussion; switch off TV/Phones/internet Reading materials - Speed reading - Glance through headlines - Use table of content - Use transition time well.
  15. 15. Organize your work space – save time by having a good and clear desk  Balance and moderation – create time for exercises, medical check-up and close relations NB – 20% of what you do will account for 80% of the results you get. (Pareto’s Principle)

ACTIVITY 2 – PARETO’S PRINCIPLE Write down your entire tasks – everything you do at work (major – minor) Write down a summary of outcomes/results expected of you (things most crucial to your success) Rate list 1 on the scale of 1 – 5 (with 1 being low priority and 5 being utmost priority) Select all the tasks rated 5 to form the 20% most directly linked to those outcomes/results.
  17. 17. CONCLUSION 1. It would be better for an individual never to have been born than for him to live on this planet for many years and not fulfil the purpose for which he has been given life
  18. 18. 2. Time is  Perishable  irreplaceable and  cannot be saved.

  21. 21. If you have difficulty managing your TIME, THEN you are having difficulty managing your LIFE.
