For more information about upcoming events, call your local branch or visit www.kckpl.org THE QUILTMAKERS OF GEE'S BEND 6 pm, Thursday, January 22, Main This Emmy-winning film documents a group of internationally-acclaimed African-American quiltmakers from Gee's Bend, Alabama. Their compositions have been hailed by Michael Kimmelman of The New York Times as "some of the most miraculous works of modern art America has produced." The Quiltmakers of Gee's Bend explores the extraordinary lives, inspirations, and history of these artists, and also follows them on a touching bus journey to see their quilts exhibited at The Milwaukee Art Museum. QUILTING WORKSHOP WITH SYLVIA KENNER To register: 913-627-0306 Join us for a quilting workshop led by local quilt maker Sylvia Kenner. Sylvia will demonstrate basic sewing and piecing techniques to make a simple quilt block. January 7,Wednesday HOME SCHOOL ADVENTURES: "ROCK-IT" SCIENCE 1 pm, Schlagle Students will learn about the rock cycle and how rocks are made through hands on activities. Students will also become young geologists and identify rocks by studying their specific properties. There will be a class for 6-8 year olds and a class for 9-12 year olds.
